The Arts Community lost a lot of talented and admired people this year. There are movies that both got recognition and deserved it....for example Manchester By the Sea and La La Land. For Steep and the other maniacs to detract from that with their political views wasn’t just a slap in the face to the integrity of Deplorables. It was an insult to the memory of their peers and a distraction from work that is worthy of praise.
I have to question Piers’ judgment when he calls Streep “intelligent” while castigating her for a speech that showed what a dumbass she is. It is no secret that many (most?) actors are not the sharpest tools in the shed.

That would have been a truly courageous and admirable thing to do.

Meryl is a graduate of Vassar and Yale, so she probably is actually intelligent. Too bad she isn’t very wise and lacks common sense.
