It’s great that she TOLERATES black people. The rural people I know don’t need to TOLERATE anyone - their communities and neighborhoods are made up of all sorts of people who LIKE each other (white, black, straight, and even gay). And I’d bet the neighborhoods are WAY more diverse than the one she lives in.
I have been through some communities like she describes (and don’t know people there since I don’t stay long). But they are getting more and more rare since the ‘80s when I remember them being the norm.
Unlike liberal TOLERANCE which seems to be increasing as they also seem to be liking, mingling with, and living near people-not-like-them less. Since they are TOLERANT, they don’t have to LIKE or interact with those people - they just have to hire blacks, say nice things about them and claim they have black friends (unlike rural people, you wouldn’t know they have black friends by watching their day-to-day activities so they need to say it).
If “racist” still meant anything I’d bet it applies to her more than a majority of rural people.
