Russia begins military withdrawal from Syria
The Guardian ^ | January 6, 2017 | By Patrick Wintour

Vladimir Putin has signalled “mission semi-accomplished” in Syria as Russia announced the start of a withdrawal of forces, beginning with the departure from the Mediterranean of a naval group led by the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier.

“In accordance with the decision of the supreme commander of the Russian armed forces, [President] Vladimir Putin, the Russian defence ministry is beginning the reduction of the armed deployment to Syria,” the military chief, Valery Gerasimov, said.

Expert opinion is divided over whether the Kuznetsov’s journey to the Mediterranean in October added anything militarily beyond a symbolic show of naval force.

Putin ordered a reduction in his forces in Syria on 29 December, coinciding with the start of a ceasefire brokered by Turkey and Russia. The fragile pact, which excludes Islamic State and the al-Qaida-linked Fateh al-Sham, is designed to pave the way for peace talks in Kazakhstan later this month aimed at bringing an end to Syria’s six-year conflict. . .

I have said for a while, this war is over the day the Turks decide its over. With the loss of Aleppo, I think they have decided to cut their losses.

They did stipulate that they retained the right to attack Kurds as they see fit.

Right now, the Syrian government is focused on reducing rebel pockets. It doesn’t need much help to do this, so we may see a reduction in foreign support. If the government decides to have a major offensive against al-Qaeda controlled Idlib province or ISIS controlled eastern Syria, presumably foreign support will increase again.

Serious question...... the left and media (largely one and the same) tell us that Russia conducted efforts to influence the election.

My question.... was the Russian effort more successful than the propaganda put out by the MSM on behalf of Hillary attacking Trump?

The administration that donated money through the State Department to a group that attacked Bibi in Israel is outraged that Russia played games? You can’t make this stuff up.

Agree.

Their port and airbase is secure.

They can now dock their carriers and task force for much needed repairs before it sinks into the Med.

They do not have anything to worry about from us since none of our carrier groups are deployed

Talk the talk and walk the walk: For verification check the weight of the cargo in vessels heading for Syria compared to those from Syria.

The pictures at https://twitter.com/alperboler and https://twitter.com/YorukIsik tells another story; i.e. that the Russians are shipping more gear to than from Syria.

Yeah, we're getting out, but I'll leave my boot in Obama's ass.

Some "gratitude" for all Obama's done for your hero, KGB Putin, Russian Navy Patriot. After Putin got what he wanted from the traitorous little punk on such all-important things as missile defense and nukes, including the Iran nuke deal, he slaps him in the face and tells him to get lost.

Yeah, somehow I doubt there will be a withdrawal anytime soon.

If anything the Russians appear to be the stabilizing force in Syria. The 20+ “moderate” rebel groups (/s) who were in Aleppo will return if Russia leaves.

One reason we are not deployed was the huge number of pregnancies on board. Women should absolutely not be crew in the Navy. Hopefully Mad Dog will see to it soon.

The war is ending because Clinton lost the election

All parties know that without her, the Saudi-Sunni-Jihadi-Obama-US proxy war can’t continue
