Absolutely NOT!

We need another welfare state like we need another million Muslims.

Puerto Rico is a financial nightmare due to its’ own leftist policies and welfare addiction. It is in worse financial shape than any state. They have NOTHING to offer the rest of the country and they can either remain a protectorate or take their independence and become the new Haiti.

Either way the res of America sees little benefit in allowing them access to the U.S Treasury.

It wasn’t terrorism that drove the Navy out of Puerto Rico. Rather, the decision of the Puerto Ricans to close Vieques Island to use as a gunnery range removed any reason for the Navy to maintain a base at Roosevelt Roads. Major loss to the P.R. Economy.

They kicked our military out of Vieques, despite warnings that it would create economic hardship on the islanders when we left.

They knew this and did not care. So now I say Puerto Rico can go eat dirt like the Haitians.

No! No more sun-baked liberals. See: Hawaii. Now if Iceland wants to join the union I may have to give it some thought. See: Alaska.

They actually have a terrorist movement dedicated to full independence.

That is the FALN and the pardoning of FALN terrorists was one of Clinton's many scandals.

I agree, but it’s already been decided by our betters.
We Cantorized our weasel, but not enough districts followed our lead to drain the swamp.
The Uniparty still rules the District of Corruption.
And they have already set up the next referendum as statehood or independence.
No third option of remaining as they are.
Puerto Ricans will vote for statehood.

Like I said, your pitfalls notwithstanding, it STILL takes a majority of the US House, Senate, AND a President to sign off on it.

Let’s not mince words here. PR enjoys welfare state status without the bugaboo status of requiring Federal Income Taxes. Until that changes, expect blowback from those enjoying the benefits and not wanting the responsibilities.

We must also codify English only as the language of government prior to allowing any additional states to the union. The idea of a multi-lingual country is deadly to a successful society.

Look no farther than Canada and its’ English/French divide and how it causes all kinds of social problems to see why a common language for a country that all citizens are required to use is so important.

We do not want you.

You bring nothing to the table.

Get out.

Puerto Ricans will vote for statehood.

AND, like I said it takes the House, Senate and President to formalize that vote and make it a reality. WILL NOT HAPPEN for at least 4 years, minimum.

I don’t care what this “committee” supports. It won’t happen.

They are pushing it because they are in deep financial trouble and want somebody else to pay for it.

That's the CORE truth.

They want someone to save them AND pay for it.

D.C. was never intended to be a state and it should be returned to Maryland and Virginia if they want representation in the congress and senate.

They already have 3 electoral votes in the election of the President which is too many already. They are guaranteed Democrat electors.

I looked. Show me some indication of when this “platform missive” was issued. I can’t find one, but the timeline is very important here. It was not a year ago the RNC was hawking for Yeb!

Puerto Ricans, meet the IRS. I’m sure you will get along just fine.

Don’t be so sure, with Lindsey Graham, John McCain and Paul Ryan in Congress.

Yeah... lots of people here like to be contrarians and hawk up some kind of pointless example or fear. Go back and see where it takes the US House, Senate, AND the President to actualize this.

The film reported a US Navy fighter jet accidentally dropped a pair of 500 pound bombs, killing a PR civilan employee of the Navy.

How does PR being a state benefit the rest of the country? They need to offer up something, like granting independence (secession) to the non-lib portions of CA, IL and NY and making them their own states. BTW, why isn’t Guam clamoring for the same thing?
