One of the worlds largest ocean circulation systems may not be as stable as todays weather models predict, according to a new study.
In fact, changes in the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) the same deep-water ocean current featured in the movie The Day After Tomorrow could occur quite abruptly, in geologic terms, the study says. The research appears in the Jan. 4 online edition of the journal Science Advances.

Again, the fallacy of trying to predict the future.
This fascination that humans have with trying to predict the future is just delusional.
NO ONE can do this!
You flip a coin 99 times, 50 times it was heads and 49 times it was tails. If you “predict” that the next flip will be tails, and it is, have you correctly predicted the future?
OF COURSE NOT!
The odds for that flip coming up tails is still 50/50. Either it will or it won’t.
Actually, not really true, because a billion other factors are at play.
The coin could land on it’s edge.
The coin could fall down a sewer grate and never be seen again.
A third party could snatch the coin out of the air and run away with it.
The flipper could have substituted a double sided coin.
An airliner could crash into a skyscraper and any interest in how the flip turned out would instantly become irrelevant.
A meteor could strike, obliterating the coin, the people, and the results.
An earthquake could strike.
A nearby terrorist could detonate a bomb or shoot the flipper and witnesses.
Gas from a chemical plant accident could incapacitate or kill all flipping participants.
A Pit Bull could attack the flipper.
A passerby could engage the flipper in the knockout game.
A terrorist could run over the flipping group with a truck.
Lightning could strike the group.
With a shout, Jesus could return
Someone could yell “FREE BEER”, ending the experiment.
ALL these things are absolutely possible! (maybe not the free beer), most of them HAVE happened. Maybe no one was flipping coins at the time, but they could have been.
We can make educated guesses, but they are sill guesses. We could be 99.999999999999% certain about something happening, yet it can NEVER be 100%.
So basically it’s a hundred thousand years or so. The day after tomorrow after tomorrow after tomorrow etc.
balderdash! The earth spins and as long as keeps spinning, the wind will keep blowing, the tides will keep flowing and the ocean currents will flow as well. This is more FAKE news and speculation that is about as reliable as your daily horoscope.
Atlantic currents may be stabilized by more federal funding to universities and the UN.
The situation can be stabilized by casting our bread upon the waters.
Send bread to the research scientists, man. Lots of bread.
Funny how the answer is always the same.
It’s nothing that global taxation and wealth redistribution can’t solve. That always fixes everything. /s
Yeah, we’re all aglow over here in Oregon. If the cooling is as bad as the radiation, then it amounts to nothing.
The study "found" no such thing. The study MODELED instability in the Atlantic Ocean water circulation system. They intentionally put instability into the system, and then modeled what would happen. It's sort of like modeling a 8.8 earthquake in Minnesota to see what would happen. That certainly doesn't predict that an 8.8 earthquake will actually occur there.
Don't we have to consider 'the seriousness of that possibility'?
I had instability in my kitchen sink drain when it rusted thru on Christmas day. A biblical flood occurred shortly there after. The water circulation system was also clogged after that.
Someone check with the Poseidon plumbing company to check the instability in the Atlantic Ocean water circulation system before it is too late.
How often do the poles flip their polarity?
Looks like the global warming gravy train might be ending soon. Now it’s time for the big scary ocean disruption!
In geological terms means in a thousand years it might happen.
By then we will have figured out a way to deal with it.
Geologically regularly? Every 200 to 300 thousand years, except we're currently way overdue.
See, global warming is self correcting.
The onset of the Younger Dryas cold period may have taken less than a decade.
After the Trump administration cuts off funding to these grant junkie who live off of the government tit and will tell you whatever you want to hear, it will be fascinating to see how these liberal elites adjust to life in the real world in an actual job.
Even more fascinating is what happens when real scientists produce studies that doesn’t agree with the politically correct gravy train dogma.
