The marching band of Alabama's oldest private, historically black liberal arts college has accepted an invitation to perform at President-elect Donald Trump's inaugural parade, organizers said.
Talladega College's band will march at Trump's inauguration as other historically black schools such as Howard University, which performed at President Barack Obama's first inaugural parade, said they won't be marching in the Jan. 20 event.
"We were a bit horrified to hear of the invitation," said Shirley Ferrill of Fairfield, Alabama, a member of Talladega's Class of 1974.
"I don't want my alma mater to give the appearance of supporting him," Ferrill said of Trump on Monday. "Ignore, decline or whatever, but please don't send our band out in our name to do that."
The move has lit up Talladega College's social media sites with a sharp debate about the band's decision to participate in the parade. Some people voiced strong opposition, while others support the band's participation.

As far as the original decision, whoever is in charge of Talladega College has probably made an incredibly smart decision.
Private colleges in the US, especially black colleges, have been on very lean times for decades now, with many closing. But playing at the inauguration, especially with the controversy, is almost guaranteed to strongly boost enrollment as well as funding for the college.
The Talladega College Tornado Marching Band (The Great Tornado) was established in 2012. The marching band is the largest organization on campus with over 200 members. The band is led by 5 drum majors and is accompanied by a dance line called the “Dega Diamonds.” The marching band made their debut appearance at the annual Honda Battle of the Bands in 2015.

Shirley, if you were keeping up, you'd know that 25% of young black men voted for Trump. You would also know that Trump was the only candidate to go to the black community and actually ask them for their vote.
Sadly, you sound like one of those Democrats who bought into Obama's ideology of racialism and division. Shame on you.
