Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Jerry Knowles wants to put a stop to the sanctuary campus movement in his state as soon as he and his legislative colleagues get back to work in January.
He circulated a co-sponsorship memo in December in an effort to find like-minded lawmakers to help push a bill that would cut off state funding to any institution of higher education that sets itself up as a sanctuary campus to protect illegal immigrants.
Knowles memo followed by only a few days the news that two Pennsylvania schools Swarthmore College and the University of Pennsylvania had pledged to refuse to allow federal authorities on campus without a warrant. They directed their campus law enforcement not to communicate, coordinate or cooperate with federal authorities regarding undocumented individuals on campus and refuse to share information about undocumented students with federal agencies unless presented with some form of legal process.
In other words, Swarthmore and Penn administrators are setting their schools up as sanctuary campuses.
........
More than 550 college and university presidents nationwide signed a statement calling on business, civic, religious and nonprofit organizations to support an effort to ensure DACA continues after President-elect Trump takes his right hand off the Bible and moves into the White House on Jan. 20.

I hope the alumni withdraw their support too...
Take away their federal funding and let them become an empty campus with no snowflakes and zero left wing professors.
There is little they can do. Both Swarthmore and U of P are private, and they have large endowments.
On the other hand, how could they keep anyone off their campus? They have a huge spread of buildings extending for many blocks, intermingled with private businesses and dwellings. Anyone can go there and walk around, including Federal agents.
I’m glad my college, Charleston Southern University is not on that list...
It is much bigger than just money. It is a criminal act to harbor, support aid or abet a criminal illegal alien subject to immediate deportation. It is also blatant OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE. These college administrators need JAIL TIME!! And any Mayor or commissioner that obstructs justice must be arrested. With dispatch please.
If Sec 505 of the IIRIRA hasn’t been repealed, why not go after institutions for violating that? It’s been on the books for years.
What’s to stop the schools from accepting large donations from Saudia Arabia? Remember how quickly SA tried to send big bucks to NYC after 9-11 and good ol’ Rudy told them to shove it?
Are these institutions located in the United States of America? Are private institutions allowed to declare themselves no go zones for selected federal agencies? How does that work?
The first city that declares itself a no go zone for the IRS and its agents will enjoy tremendous economic growth.
Are they shooting their selves in the foot over a small number of illegals? To hear all these stories, you’d think 25%+ of college population was made up of illegals.
I’m betting it is not. Most of these folks hail from countries where academia is low on the list of important things.
AFAIK, campus law enforcement are usually state certified. That makes them real deal police officers. If they follow through with the orders from the administrators, they're in violation of their position as a peace officer.
They get tons of federal research dollars. It's what the profs live for. Let them pay for their own RA's and see how long that lasts.
And they are now opening themselves up to liability: first time some protected illegal attacks a precious snowflake girl, those big endowments become fat targets for any lawyer worth a crap.
I am really sick of so-called institutions of higher learning protecting fraudulently documented foreigners from our laws.
Any action to support illegal aliens is anti-American.
THIS is the magic bullet that will bring this crap to a screeching halt. Close the money spigot and get their attention.

Don't all the sanctuary universities to milk one set of Federal rules and a ignore others, JMHO.
Good.
I hope it catches on, too.
“Are they shooting their selves in the foot over a small number of illegals?”
It’s called “virtue signaling” - they’re more caring than the rest of us, dontcha know. In my mind, that’s the basis of modern liberalism - weak-minded people adopt attitudes that cost them nothing but (supposedly) tell everyone else they’re good people. What will be curious to see is how they respond when their virtue signaling starts to cost them something - hopefully Trump and/or the Pennsylvania legislature will provide an opportunity for us to see.
“Both Swarthmore and U of P are private, and they have large endowments.”
I was under the impression that even private U’s depend very heavily on Federal Grants, for their own programs and for Student Loan Funding, which allows the lying Hippocrates to claim in their marketing slime that they “meet 100% of their students needs”which of course they imply goes 100% toward their designated victim classes of the day regarding their Racial student body makeup. I know thye reference here was regarding State Funding, not Federal, however perhaps there is hope that under a Trump Administration, just maybe we can stop finding these enemy actors. I’m no expert on this, anyone with more expertise care to weigh in?

Maybe, maybe not. State law officers are *not* bound to follow federal law. It is a bedrock of federalism. Let us not throw out the baby with the bathwater.
They are bound by State law, so it depends what the state law says on the matter.
