LAS VEGAS Ronda Rousey was once again pummeled by a striker and lost her second consecutive bout. The former womens bantamweight champion was completely outclassed in the striking game by Amanda Nunes, who stopped Rousey at 48 seconds of the first round to retain her womens bantamweight championship in the main event of UFC 207 at T-Mobile Arena.
Nunes landed a big right just seconds into the fight that clearly hurt Rousey, who was fighting for the first time since a stunning defeat at the hands of Holly Holm on Nov. 14, 2015.
Rousey tried to throw punches with Nunes, but she had nothing to offer. Nunes was blistering her with combinations, hitting her with virtually everything she threw.
This is amazing, Nunes said in exultation.

Which does nothing to explain the success of one Royce Gracie. He was not a striker but a Judo ace.
Great meme. Teacher, the Russians hacked my homework!
Doesn't matter. Deontay Wilder will soon be the champ. I just hope he gets to beat Tyson Fury's arse to get there. But Fury's career seems to have imploded.
I have frequent friendly arguments with a former coworker about women’s basketball. To me, it’s unwatchable. I’ve played pick-up basketball with two former Olympic women basketball players. They were very good at fundamentals like passing, setting picks and screens, etc., but they couldn’t consistently hit the 16 foot jumper. I know it’s also a lost art in the NBA as well, but it should be a bread-and-butter shot in the women’s game.
That may be a problem for Laz, but I've always felt like a lesbian in a man's body.
she sided with bernie
You watch too many chick superhero movies, apparently. A tough 13 year old boy would knock either Rousy or Nunes out cold.
Ali takes a rest during his fight with Joe Frazier
.
Media-created fraud Ali just got clobbered by Joe Frazier's left hook.
Yep, she ran into two strikers. She is not a boxer.
About ten years ago I sat ringside at a professional boxing match in the D.C. Armory, and there were two women fighters on the under-card. One was a local D.C girl, while the other was a very sturdy looking sort from West Virginia. The D.C. fighter was hit with an uppercut which, although it did not knock her out, sent her wig flying off of her head like it was on was spring. It landed about four rows back, and the spectators began throwing it around like a beach ball while the poor girl in the ring pleaded for them to give it back. She never got the wig back and left the ring mortified and in tears.
She used the unorthodox strategy of using her face to block punches.
Ali was created by that loudmouth Howard Cosell (real name Cohen). He changed his name same way Ali did, whose real name was Cassius Clay. They were both real time losers who were world class phonies and fourflushers.
Rousey was a BIG Clinton fan. ha ha ha Another plate of crap they have to eat!!!
Ali holds the distinction of being the only heavyweight champion in the history of boxing to lose his title to a novice who had only seven professional fights--Leon Spinks.
Cool! There probably isn't a broad in this town you can't beat the crap out of, huh?
LMAO!!!
Brazilian Jujitsu, actually. He was the first wave.
No holds barred, no gloves. He faded directly in proportion to others becoming more rounded. So yeah, it does a lot to explain his success.
Go back and watch the first three UFC contests in the early 90s. Virtually every submission he had was by choke, or joint lock. Classic BJJ, beautiful, and masterful.
Once others started learning BJJ and combining it with other MAs, Gracie faded. Beaten by Matt Hughes (a wrestler) in his last fight.
Specialists don't last. So, yeah...
Maybe you two should meet to discuss this face to face.
I remember watching the early days of the UFC have been fan ever since
Me, too, but I didn't really catch on until 2005 or so when The Ultimate Fighter hit TV.
My dad did some amateur boxing back in his day. He thought UFC was a disgrace to boxing. Different generations, I guess. I always saw boxing as being pretty boring, and after the No Mas fight, I thought it was too susceptible to rigging.
UFC always seemed more pure to me, and definitely more real. I actually enjoyed the no-holds-barred days when you could see styles compete in their purist form. Wild, wooly, unpredictable, and very real.
Agreed
