”White Nights” was a product of the thawing of relations with the Soviets, which makes the movie a period piece. In the Eighties, Hollywood got back into the habit of packaging a hit song with a movie, something that had largely disappeared in the Sixties. This was the hit.

Hard rocking punk girl bands were a fixture in the Eighties, and these girls were among the most successful.
