Mormons are urging a choir who are set to sing at Donald Trump's presidential inauguration to refuse to perform at the event with one of the singers even resigning in protest.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir are one of a few acts to confirm they will sing at Trump's swearing-in ceremony later next month.

The group has already performed at the inaugurations of George Bush, George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan and added they were honoured to be picked to perform.

But now it has emerged, a petition has been set up by fellow Mormons requesting that the choir do not perform at the ceremony and one choir member has resigned in a refusal to perform.

It comes after Trump had trouble during the Republican primary campaign winning over Mormon voters, who voiced skepticism about his candidacy.

Most Mormons I’ve met are very fine people and they act in a far more Christian life than many professing Christians I’ve met. Trump won Utah by 2-1 and the Choir agreed to perform; don’t let the actions of one idiot (how many are in the choir, 200??) color your views of the rest of the fine people in the State and nationwide.
