The New York Police Department is now allowing officers to wear beards and grow turbans in a bid to accommodate Sikh recruits.
Sikh officers will be allowed to wear turbans in place of the traditional police cap and grow beards up to a half-inch long, which are required for religious reasons.
Police Commissioner James O'Neill announced the new rules that affect all religious members on Wednesday following a graduation ceremony for new police recruits.

I will alter that slightly to say that when your nation's police forces start looking like the terrorist puppets from the movie, "Team America," - it's time to move.

I’d gladly live in a commounity of Sikh’s. I would walk away from everything I own if I was surrounded by Islam.

Only problem for the military is the seal necessary when wearing protective masks. Won't get it with a beard, unless there are newer masks out there.
With all the women now in the military, hair lengths for men should be relaxed. I recall my black soldiers with beards after they were diagnosed with pseudofolliculitis. Funny though, I never saw a black officer or senior NCO with a beard.
