President Obama has created two new national monuments in southeastern Utah and southern Nevada totalling 1.64 million acres, despite intense opposition from American Indians living in the area.
Obama created the Bears Ears and Gold Butte national monuments using his powers under the Antiquities Act, adding to the 265 million acres of lands the president has already put under stricter federal regulation.
The White House set aside 1.47 million acres of land to create the controversial Bears Ears monument, which has been opposed by local Navajo tribal members despite being supported by tribal officials.
“Today’s actions will help protect this cultural legacy and will ensure that future generations are able to enjoy and appreciate these scenic and historic landscapes,” Obama said in a statement Wednesday.
The Interior Department also notes future drilling and mining activities will be banned in the region, which puts into jeopardy the fate of Energy Fuels Resources, the largest private employer in the area. The company has uranium mining claims in the region. . .

Their national monument should be a giant skull and crossbones carved into a mountainside...dedicated to all the people who were murdered in tribal raids or died due to famine or lack of medicine in the ~1000 years they wandered around while never managing to advance past the Stone Age.
The “National Monuments” law has been grossly abused by Bill Clinton and now Obozo.
It was never meant to lock up vast tracts of millions of acres. It was supposed to be for very focused, very limited actions, but ofc the Democraps abuse every law when they think they can get away with it.
Congress working with Pres. Trump should revise or repeal the legislation, in the process undoing Obama and Clinton actions that were way over the top (Clinton locked up a huge portion of southern Utah).

No president alone should be able to restrict the use of so much land. Trump and the Republican Congress need to change this law.

Congress passed the law, Congress can repeal and replace.
Trump can encourage them to do so. IF there are to be “National Monuments” the Congress could list the specific ones approved, their exact dimensions, and have a much stricter procedure for any new ones (or simply not allow any new ones, by this point in history we ought to know what does or does not qualify by the appropriate criteria).
I don’t know if it WILL happen but this ought to happen, under a Republican Congress and R. President. Frame the law in ways that make it very difficult for any future changes.

(used to. Hillary sold the uranium rights to Russia and Obama has ceded the other natural resource/mining rights to China. This came after they absorbed all the recycled steel from the CASH FOR CLUNKERS program. )

It has been amended twice to limit abuses, but it has been grossly abused by Clinton and Obama.
It should be seriously amended and/or replaced.

So what vital resources are there that he wants to put forever out of reach of American industry?
Clinton put one of the two known sources of “clean” coal out of reach of use by American companies in order to repay a Chinese/Indonesian merchant who owned rights to the other source of clean coal in Indonesia so that he could have a monopoly.
