Debbie Reynolds Dead at 84

Debbie Reynolds -- who rose to stardom in "Singin' in the Rain" and quickly became a staple among Hollywood royalty -- died Wednesday as a result of a stroke, TMZ has learned ... just one day after her daughter Carrie Fisher passed away ... this according to her son Todd. Debbie was rushed to a hospital shortly after 1 PM when someone at the Beverly Hills home of her son, Todd, called 911 to report a possible stroke. We're told Debbie and Todd were making funeral plans for Carrie, who died Tuesday of cardiac arrest.

Debbie famously divorced Eddie Fisher in 1959 after his affair with Elizabeth Taylor. Debbie married 2 more times in 1960 and 1984. She played iconic roles in "Tammy and the Bachelor" and "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" ... for which she earned an Oscar nomination. Carrie's relationship with Debbie was the focus of Carrie's semi-autobiographical book, "Postcards from the Edge," which was later adapted for the big screen, starring Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine. Debbie's survived by her son Todd, who tells us, "She's with Carrie."

A doctor on a radio show today said there is such a thing as broken heart syndrome. This was before the news that Debbie had died.

Not a fan of sci-fi so not familiar with Carrie Fisher, but kinda grew up watching Debbie Reynolds on the big screen.

When my pop died, I was young, 14, and amazed at how well I was taking it.

Until the colitis kicked in. And severe back spasms.

They’re long gone. The mind and body are a complex pair.

Thank you. At least my parents both lived a long life, and both in declining health. A week and a half ago, my son’s girlfriend found her 59 year old dad dead. Poor girl. No symptoms of heart problems. I sat behind his parents at the funeral and his poor elderly father sobbed the whole time.

Let me tell all of you something. If you really want to do something, do it. Do not wait until tomorrow because it may never come. For months before my husband died, we had wanted to take a train trip through the NW National Parks. He died before we could go. One day the next year, a voice told me to plan that trip. I did research and found the dates. I called my daughter and told her what I had found out. Then I asked her which dates would be good for her and my 2 grandchildren. We set a date, made reservations to fly to Seattle where we would board the train, The GrandLuxe. We were there for a few days and she showed me some tourist stuff. The 2 grandchildren had been born there so she knew her way around. We got on the train and toured Mt. Rainer, ID, Glacier National Park in MT, Yellowstone, etc. We had a wonderful time. It was a very good thing we went then, because the company closed its doors the next year. It was truly a trip of a lifetime and one we still talk about. We have learned to listen to those small voices.
