Can Donald Trump persuade Americans to support his agenda? It’s not likely.
Washington Post ^ | Dec. 27, 2016 | George C. Edwards III

Public support is a key resource that modern presidents have typically sought for themselves and their policies. They seek to leverage public opinion to garner support in Congress.

New presidents, basking in the glow of victory, often assume that they can move the public. After all, they have just won the biggest prize in American politics because they persuaded enough voters to support their candidacy. Why shouldn’t they be able to persuade Americans to support their policies?

Campaigning is different from governing, however. To win an election, a candidate need only convince voters in the short term that he or she is a better choice than the few available alternatives. In addition, someone always wins, whether or not voters support the victor’s policy positions.

Well, if George C. Edwards III says so, it must be true, no?

Wash Pravda is trying way too hard to remain relevant these days. Sorry, but I see the this filthy rag evolving into a handful of minimum wage bloggers in the not too distant future.

WAPO should consider being even-handed given the volume of business Trump supporters direct to the parent company, Amazon.

“Can Donald Trump persuade Americans to support his agenda? It’s not likely.”

I think it’s just so cute the Washington Post apparently still thinks that there’s people out here who believe a word they say!

Can Donald Trump persuade Americans to support his agenda? It’s not likely.

These types of headlines originate from "inside the beltway."

They have as much validity as the stories generated by the inmates "inside the asylum."

I bet he and his employers know exactly what they are doing. This reads like yet another, prog/left/dem hit piece; Sow angst, create & fuel derision, spread the new “talking points” to the foot soldiers.

Can Donald Trump persuade Americans to support his agenda? It’s not likely.

And you're going to be there to tell your readers exactly what that agenda is, won't you? It will all be lies, but that won't matter to you.

Even your duller readers now notice how worthless your predictions about Donald Trump are.

It's YOUR agenda that people no longer support.

I have the feeling that Trump can operate the Bully Pulpit in a manner unseen in my life time.
He will talk to the people over the media and the legislative branch.
No filters.

It's "The Art of the Deal", dummies.

These poor elites simply have not come to grips with what;s about to happen in this country.

They're going to be stunned. Someone has finally come along who is willing to point out to the American People that the Uni-party emperors have no clothes.

It's going to be a battle, but it's going to be a winning battle for President Trump and the Nation.

Climb aboard, stand aside, or get run over...

Can Donald Trump persuade Americans to support his agenda? It’s not likely.

What seems unlikely is the Washington Post ever comprehending the difference between their own propaganda about Trump, and what Trump's very popular agenda actually is.

The MSM have lied so much and so hard, they have invested themselves into delusions and are now pitiful creatures making fools of themselves.

Cheered at the Army Navy game and church, yeah right everyone absolutely hates him. Obama is a bitter eunuch that wishes he was still relevant. When did that POS ever get cheered except onthe set of the View.

Exactly - he's the first person since Reagan who actually campaigned on what he really intended to do - it's what got him elected.

Most politicians tell lies and then tell those who voted for them why it's just too dang hard to keep them promises....

“...presidents are highly dependent on the strategic position in which they find themselves and can only influence Congress at the margins.”
____________________________________

GOP holds both Houses. A crack team with Congressional experience is whipping the majority and warning the *margins* (McCain, Lindsay et al). The voters are ready, willing and able to provide even more support and encouragement, along with plans to primary obstructionists.
Clinton Foundation $ is now suspect and limited as to replacement velocity. The progs left Trump the gift of the nuclear option. He can afford to lose 3-4 votes, since Pence breaks ties.

I’d say the strategy is evident, the tactics are clear and both seem on target 3 weeks before Inauguration.

“...he argues, presidential power is the power to recognize and exploit opportunities.
In other words, presidents cannot create opportunities for change and must understand and take advantage of whatever possibilities for change already exist. “

zer0 & the progs created the opportunity. We, the people, created the possibility. We are already persuaded. Now, we demand change.

The ironic beauty of this situation is that to implement his immigration and border wall agenda Trump will need no help at all because all the laws concerning immigration ARE ALREADY ON THE BOOKS. Even money for the wall.

We’re fixing to see how Aggie theory does or doesn’t work. It would appear that Barry’s masters have ordered him to “burn down the house” on his way out the door.
