NEW YORK A&E is scrapping plans for an eight-part documentary series about the Ku Klux Klan after finding out that some participants of the hate group were paid for their work on it.
The network said Saturday it was dropping "Escaping the KKK: A Documentary Series Exposing Hate in America" a day after discovering that "nominal" cash payments were given by third-party producers.
"While we stand behind the intent of the series and the seriousness of the content, these payments are a direct violation of A&E's policies and practices for a documentary," the network said in statement.
"We had previously provided assurances to the public and to our core partners including the Anti-Defamation League and Color of Change that no payment was made to hate group members, and we believed that to be the case at the time," the network said. "We have now decided not to move forward with airing this project."
The project triggered wide criticism as soon as it was announced earlier this month. The network, which originally titled the series "Generation KKK," changed the name and enlisted civil rights groups to collaborate on in-show educational content after getting heat for allowing the KKK's hate speech to be aired. . .

this is series!
[this is series!]
Likely this started out as tabloid. When it attracted controversy they invited civil rights activists and changed the whole theme to “escaping” the Klan. When that didn’t cool things down they come up with the excuse that some interviewees got paid. They feared they would loose advertising is what happened.
When is A&E going to do a series on “Communists and Marxist groups and their Hatred of the American system” or “The Truth About Al Sharpton and his lifelong con-game”?
I doubt it.
Based on the principle of ‘projection’, I’m guessing the real ‘payments’ were from the DNC to A&E to cancel the show because it exposed that the KKK was made up of mostly Democrat politicians and supporters.
Will there be ‘educational content’ broadcast as a result of Color of Change’s involvement?
The Headline:
“A&E financially supports the KKK!”
And it would be the headline if it were Breitbart, Fox, etc.
The Nashville Tennessean got a Pulitzer in the 1970s for a big series of articles about the KKK. Membership in the racist organization boomed after all the publicity the articles created.
Hmmm now just who would that be? Do whites have 'civil rights' groups?
Professionals?
I lived in Nashville then and it was amazing what a boom the articles were to the KKK.
corrections: the Tennessean was a finalist for the Pulitzer, but did not win, and it was 1981, not the 70s. (I should fact check first, post second.)
Trump would think this is HUGH and series!
Does that mean they payed them money?
My first thought, too. The KKK was the militant arm of the Dems...LOL...now, the MSM has taken their place.
Color Of Change helps you do something real about injustice. We design campaigns powerful enough to end practices that unfairly hold Black people back, and champion solutions that move us all forward. Until justice is real. https://www.colorofchange.org/
Funny, they wanted to create the impression that a Trump era is fostering hate. They probably discovered that half the group were Fed infiltrators.
The Democrats probably pressured them into scrapping it to avoid Democrat exposure.
How can you have a “documentary” that is an actual series that half the words are bleeped and there are no actual faces? “This blob is Rob. He hates ******’s and he’s a member of the KKK. This blob is Terry. Terry is a ******** mayor of the town of *****. He can’t stand Trump or ******”. I mean, at some point, you have to have recognizable characters and you can’t do that with the Klan. I think they realized that while it got them some press, the show was going to be boring as all get out.
