Police in rural Louisiana say a Walmart employee found a baby girl in a bathroom a few hours after the infants mother gave birth to her and dumped her in a trash can.
The infant was only about 4 hours old when an employee at a Walmart Supercenter in the city of New Roads in Pointe Coupee Parish found her just after 7 p.m. on Friday, Lt. Shael Stringer of the New Roads Police Department told The Washington Post. The mother, Kyandrea Thomas, a woman in her 30s, was found shortly after.
Stringer said a Walmart employee saw Thomas in the bathroom at about 3 p.m. that day and noticed that she was bleeding heavily. Thomas told the employee that she was having some trouble with her menstrual cycle.
Thomas wrapped the newborn girl, placed her in the trash can and left, police said.
About 4½ hours later, another employee who was emptying the trash can noticed that it was relatively heavy, Stringer said. The employee placed the trash bag on the floor and found the infant, who was discolored and wasnt breathing.
The baby was revived at the scene and was taken to a hospital less than a mile away, Stringer said. The infant, who is now in stable condition, was later taken to a hospital in Baton Rouge.
Investigators found Thomas, who was taken to another hospital in a nearby town Friday night because of complications from giving birth.
Thomas was taken into custody after she was discharged from the hospital on Saturday afternoon. Stringer said she will be booked at East Baton Rouge Prison and will be charged with attempted second-degree murder.

She was afraid a man would come in if she did it at Target.
It’s hard to imagine feeling so desperate.
It’s easy to imagine that this individual probably could care a less about what she did. Now back into Walmart to do some Christmas shoplifting and possibly get pregnant again by New Years.
I hope it did suffer brain damage for no breathing.
If she had killed the baby a minute before birth via abortion, she could not have been charged with anything.
Geeze, auto correct. I hope it did not suffer brain damage for not breathing.
Kyandrea
How horrible that (maybe) one day the child will learn that she was dumped in the trash by her mother immediately after birth, and with no father anywhere in sight.
Another posting, different source/author if anyone care to read the comments.

The woman who gave birth to a baby girl inside a Walmart store in New Roads Friday and is accused
of leaving her in a bathroom trash can had been collecting money for the Salvation Army outside the
store, Pointe Coupee Sheriff Bud Torres said.
The woman who was arrested, Kyandrea Thomas, 34, of Baker, has the same name and age as a woman
who pleaded guilty to negligent homicide in 2011 in the death of a 3-year-old girl who was
left inside a day care center van for nearly six hours in scorching heat in 2009.
Its my understanding that this is the same person who pleaded guilty in the Wandas World case,
19th Judicial District Attorney Hillar Moore III said, referring to the name of the day care center.
To just be grossly generalistic, at least she wasn’t racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it. Right?
I’m guessing a Clinton a voter. They do not value any life other than their own.
That’s where all the trash dump.
Signs of the times,
Without natural affection,
her parenting skills end when the orgasm is over.
What a racist hater, throwing that black child away like trash.
Who would hit that ? Fugly
This is one of those stories reinforce the saying “life ain’t fair”. We are a childless couple who would have given anything for a chld and this piece of crap drops hers in the trash. Some things are just beyond our understanding.
This aspect of the story is a little hard to believe. I can't imagine a restroom at any Walmart anywhere being vacant for 4 hours. Didn't other people go in there in those 4 hours? I would expect about 100 people to visit a Walmart restroom in 4 hours time. What did the other 99 do?
