I was the one in the khaki riding breeches. LOL. Since I was 13-15 years old I don’t remember many of the place names. I do know we went though Bass Lake because my buddy has a cottage there where I’ve stayed during deer season for many years. I recall going by the lake.
I also recall spending a day in bivouac inside the bend of a creek and doing a steeplechase race through the fields and woods and across the creek. It was one of the most thrilling things I have ever done.
A lot of the kids were from rich families from El Salvador. Ten to fifteen years later I wondered how many of them had died fighting the rebels. Probably not the one we found sleeping with his horse when we went to stable duty just after reville.
Even on a horse at an easy gait , if you blinked going through Leiters, you’d miss it.
