That is the only way this business model can work. Starting off, with half the population antagonistic to it, another 30% apathetic on the gun control issue, it is clear to anyone with a room temperature IQ that this movie would be a money loser. Long term, however, remember that school administrators and boards, even in red states, lean to the left. As a result,, this bad movie can have a considerable half life in colleges and high schools, giving them at least breakeven return.
Even if the movie had not sucked, I think it would have failed because movie-goers today prefer action and dumbass comedies. Also, I don’t think of Jessica Chastain as an A-list star. She’s a good actress, but I don’t think her name resonates with the average (Joe 6-Pack) viewer. She’s not the type that can draw ticket buyers to a crappy movie on the strength of her name. I don’t think even a bigger star could have saved this preachy POS.
I’m a statistician, and I try to keep voice out of my professional writing too. That’s probably why his joy stands out so much (to me) in this article.
The last movie I attended was when I took my son to see the first Transformers movie. Before that was when I took my daughter to see The Lion King.
Everything you wrote is accurate. My point is: as bad as The Contender was, it was Citizen Kane in comparison to Miss Sloan!
It was more heavily advertised than 95% of the most successful movies.
What leftists love, Americans hate! When will they EVER learn???? ;)
