I flew C-2A’s in Japan and Coronado. I heard the Osprey is replacing them. Osprey is neat, love the VSTOL... But yellow shirts, Handlers, LSO’s and Air Bosses will surely miss the COD trap, tailhook up, wingfold, and taxi clear of the LA (landing area) in 15 seconds as the next airplane rolls into the groove.
Make that a 20 second exit in case of a taxi one wire. :)
Also... I think saying “ability to reach speeds of 280 knots” is pilot talk for “once.” My T34 in Pensacola had a Vne of 280. But achieving that speed would probably shake about 5 or 10 instrument gauges into your lap, I can’t imagine anyone ever trying. New airplanes probably are a much different experience. I’m a dinosaur, like a lot of readers I would imagine.
Nice B-25G, I believe.
I am no aviation expert and don’t play a pilot on tv anywhere either. But, it seems if we have stuff like the TR3B why not just build more of them and fewer of the stuff that appears pretty easy to shoot down.
My flight school roommate tea bagged a flailing frog (46) over and over in the dark with legs wet with his crew chief illuminating his instruments before he got it 60 feet up onto the flight deck.
You probably know of him. He got an Air Medal for it. I don’t know what the malfunction was. Actually, I don’t really believe they can fly. I think a frog is merely a fictive hologram of some sort.
If this link works heres a few more photos of the
TR3B
And the F4 had?
Triangle rocket planes?
I didn’t know there was such a thing.
The airplanes I flew had ashtrays and smelled like a locker room.
I renewed my respect for USMC aviation that day and doubled up. I still go outside to see Echo model 53s when they fly over the house. I live about 40 clicks south of quantico.
OK..I'm a bit prejudice...I have beau-coup hours in one...wish I knew how to transfer pictures...Ive got some good ones from my Viet Nam days
That is an excellent question. One of the most oustanding qualities of the A-10 was it's survivability. It can take a tremendous amount of punishment and still keep flying. A simple web search will easily show many pics from Iraq and Afghanistan that show A-10's shot almost to pieces that still brought their pilots home safely. I don't believe the Osprey's have anywhere near that kind of toughness.
I think the auto-gyro effect would still work.
I thought Mel Gibson did a great job along with Greg Kinnear displaying the heroism of Vietnam vets in We Were Soldiers.
They are not photos, but artists ‘concepts.’
That TR-3B stuff was debunked years ago. Most of what you wrote was from an article which appeared in 2012 or earlier.
I saw it twice in local theatre. I took my son the second time to tell him the movie showed what I could not explain to him.
The best part was that last boot leaving the ground. I served with Army majors on their 2nd tour flying dustoff. Many still had the scars from the crashes they survived their first tours.
We had to learn very fast, how to get it done and survive to get it done again tomorrow.
Also another rumor I have never been able to track down is that the mile long or more UFO that flew over phoenix seen by thousands was ours as well. Even though the Governor at the time, Fife Symington made fun of it, Truth was he apologized later and said it was real.
Since every Marine is a rifleman first, every Marine aircraft is a gunship first.
Sorry there’s lot more. Nice try though. What agency are you with anyway?
I realize your home page is just sheer coincidence but who are you really?
The Osprey's job is to deliver troops and supplies to forward areas -- which the A-10 can't do. It would be a good thing if the Osprey could defend itself -- and pass out a little punishment -- while it's performing this role.
