For the last 10 years, the number of millennials who have failed to move out of their parents or grandparents homes has climbed steadily, according to new data.

Nearly 40 per cent of young adults are either living with their parents or other relatives, which is the highest point in over seven decades, new data from real estate analytics company Trulia states.

This is the highest point in 75 years where young adults have just stayed at home with no plans on moving out.

The only other time in American history where the share has been higher was back in 1940, when the economy was recovering from the Great Depression.

My husband and I both have college degrees, but the cost is high enough that we’ve been encouraging our older kids to learn a trade. Our oldest has his heart set on law enforcement so that requires Bachelors, but the next son is leaning towards becoming an electrician. We’ll see what our girls want to do as they get older. Financially, especially if they will want to someday be stay at home moms, a two year technical degree seems like a better option.

I should clarify that my kids are intelligent, but not in the areas of math and science so that limits decent paying careers like engineering or the medical field. Their strengths lean towards language and creativity-our second oldest is an amazing writer and has been working on a novel for two years. It would be a bad idea, in my opinion, to get a creative writing degree. His plan is to finance his writing who working as an electrician. Much more practical than borrowing thousands of dollars to chase his dream with a four year degree in English.

what you say is true but i don’t think that defines a trade deficit. Yes its not sovereign but it is a a sum of outflows and inflows on a national basis hence trade deficit or surplus. I’ve been on wall street for 40 years and i’ve never seen it used in a sovereign sense.

When youre unemployed where else do you live? Especially if you live in some hipster paradise like Seattle where a 1 studio apartment without a bathroom is $1500 a month. They have also been fed the lie that their useless degrees had value in the economy. They have no choice in Obamanation.

“We’re white, so, no financial aid.”

BS. There is loads of financial aid available right now.

Mrs. Bill just thought that “conventional wisdom” made it unnecessary for her to campaign that much.

‘Aerospace’ is NOT Engineering. It is a job.

Electrical, Mechanical, or Petroleum are engineering.

Why do you parents do that? Nobody yet read you the riot act? Sorry but parents send children down any path, waste years of someone’s life.

Core degrees have value. The rest are high risk, wasteful fluff. Better to do a trade like plumbing.

As a trade, a Salesman never starves, and quite often lives well. Just read books about ‘selling’ and practice practice drill rehearse rehearse.

Simple stuff that anyone’s child can learn.

Chill nada.

I was the Chief Engineer for producing the Stealth Bomber. My boss for years was top manager who built the Space Shuttles.

Aircraft are built with Mechanical, Fluid & Electrical systems. Now Computer Science fly by wire. Some Aerodynamics, but Aerospace is a paper shuffling job. Take a chance, but downside risk is greater than core degrees.

Welcome to the real world where very hard work is required to earn core disciplines. Many children are willing to work hard, that is the good part, but sadly their parents provide poor guidance. And that is the sad truth.

Or better to get a 2 year degree with experience as later guide. That can buffer the risk from poor study habits, until they later learn what they are. But colleges are very willing to sell lessor quality degrees.

Well, whoop-de-freaking-doo. How about stowing the snark and just try to give correct information then? But if you’re right, then guess all of the universities that offer degrees in Aerospace Engineering are wrong. Sorry ... my bad.

By the way, I am a 2 year degree holder and have been very successful. So your preaching is uncalled for.

The young adults who have massive student loans cannot afford to live well so they live at home. Those with useless degrees or no college can’t find jobs that make enough to support them well. It’s a very complex situation. Rents are higher due to Lowe home ownership ....

As a country we outsourced all our high labor cost jobs. For short term benefit to the few already rich. Go try and find a good job with minimal education. Not there. Your either competing with illegals or hundreds or thousands of other applicants for a 15-18 / hour job. There aren’t many of those. If your a white male then your last in line.

It’s a sad situation with complex cause/effect relationships. Some are just lazy but not all. We (multiple generations - greatest, boomers, ...) screwed this country up. We ate and sold all our seed corn and owe the creditors 20T or 150T depending on how you want to count it, screwed the schools up, screwed the youth up with bad parenting and bad government and now complain that the millennial are not doing what we think the should. LOL

Locally here is an explosion of apartment construction. Someone is expecting the millennials to break out of home for places of their own.

“‘Aerospace’ is NOT Engineering”

Well, gosh, I guess those degrees and jobs for aerospace engineers are just plain bogus. You’re an idiot for claiming that.
