Red State Brooklyn

The borough is considered deep blue, but there are red zones too. Consider Dyker Heights. It is no secret that the vast majority of Brooklyn residents, 79% to be exact, voted for Hillary Clinton on November 8. It’s a large borough, though, and out past the rapidly gentrifying brownstone neighborhoods and downtown glass high-rises that have become Brooklyn’s national representation, things can look different. While they may be in the minority in the city, some neighborhoods at the southern and eastern edges of Brooklyn have quite a bit in common with Trump’s electorate.

Look at Suffolk County. Once it was the most GOP county in the nation. While it is still majority GOP it elects Dums to be County Supervisor. Why? Prople left the city cause it was rotten but they wanted the goodies the city Dums had provided. So they vote Dum. Maybe they believe this time will be different. Thing about SI is more of your kids stay there. I know a gal from Eltingville. She grew up in Chelsea, moved to SI. Her sons stayed on SI with their families. So the changes will be slower on SI. Also while city peeps move to Suffolk, most have such a dim view of SI that they’d never move there.
So they know nothing of the reality.

That is interesting about Suffolk. Didn’t know that.

Yeah, manhattan folk and brooklyn hipsters would jump in front of a train than move and live with us “rednecks”, as they refer to us sometimes :)

THANK GOD!

Plus there’s no subway for riff raff to fall asleep on and wake up here.

And you’re right. VAST majority of my friends stayed on Staten Island.

But all brothers and sisters left and 3 out of 4 cousins.

All to NJ except one who went to Westchester.

The White Ethnic Brooklyn of yore voted for the boy from Queens. Their children and cousins in Staten Island, and Long Island voted for Trump too.
