A friend of mine bought himself a Japanese Arisaka reamed out to 30-06. Years ago I saw a man at the Red Castle Gun Club near Tulsa knocking down targets at 600 yards with one of these.
Seems like a lot of expense and trouble to go to to have a Springfield 30.06. I’m sure the Springfield is used at 1000yds with few mods.
I saw an Arisaka at a gun show, that was converted to .300 Savage.
Somebody had gone to a lot of trouble to do so. It was short and handy.. but unfortunately would not feed more than 1 shot without jamming, probably because of the shorter cartridge.
Two shots (one in the chamber, and one from the magazine) are usually sufficient for deer hunting.
It was in good shape, and went for $30 about 15 years ago. No one was interested in it. A cool bit of technology that did not quite work as expected.
