The New York Times is calling for an end to the Electoral College.

Americans would prefer by overwhelming majorities to elect a president using a popular vote system, the newspaper’s editorial board said in a piece published Monday.

“They understand, on a gut level, the basic fairness of awarding the nation’s highest office on the same basis as every other elected office — to the person who gets the most votes,” the editorial said. …

The Electoral College fits a REPUBLIC, which the United States is. It does not fit a pure Democracy, which the United States is not.

“Americans would prefer by overwhelming majorities to elect a president using a popular vote system”

Not once they think about it. One of the many advantages of the state based electoral college system is that it isolates vote counting issues to a particular state. So you can have a recount in one state, or a dispute about what happened in one state. But as soon as you have a nationwide popular vote election a recount means you have to recount the entire country.

So the majority thinks that the majority should choose the president. Seems like the need for an Electoral College is self evident.

“President with a fake identity, birth certificate, and social security number” would be a much better clue

You need a Constitutional amendment to replace the EC, hence you need the states that are not NY, CA, and FL to ratify it. Good luck convincing all the non-coastal states to give up having any say in presidential elections.

What the NYT is really saying is they don’t want voter ID and that they want illegals to be able to vote, as well as other assorted cheating. In a clean election Trump wins the popular vote and 3-4 more states like MN NH NV VA.......

Why don’t they call for the end of the fly-over states. California and New York can determine who all the presidents will be. The Founding Fathers were geniuses.

Americans would prefer by overwhelming majorities to elect a president using a popular vote system, the newspaper’s editorial board said in a piece published Monday.

Not according to the latest Gallup Poll.

“They understand, on a gut level, the basic fairness of awarding the nation’s highest office on the same basis as every other elected office — to the person who gets the most votes,” the editorial said.

And the candidate that wins the most votes in each individual election does indeed emerge as the victor of that election. Each state has its own separate election, created by their state legislature. I'm sure the Times editorial doesn't mention that because we can't have the readers actually understanding what the system is they supposedly want to get rid of. It is also an exercise in futility because there is no way 3/4 of the states would ever vote to do away with it.

End the Electoral College; bring on the Hunger Games. Fascist pricks. I hope the 8 floors being rented out by the Times are rented by rats and roaches.

How many votes would it take to legalize having the NYT editorial board dragged into the street, soaked in gasoline and set ablaze, for treason? A simple majority?

That Ol' Constitution, it sure gets in the way of some fun things...

To: All you dumb shitstains at the New York Times.

Subject: MOB RULE.

All you braindead dumb asses at the NYT have got to get a clue, not all of us Conservatives are interested in MOB RULE or LYNCH LAW.
I am a native Californian; and I for one am sick and tired of being told what to do by a bunch of IDIOTS in Sacramento, San Francisco, and LA.
The MOBS of gibsmedats, welfare kings and queens, the Gangbangers, and the corrupt political hacks in those cities have no idea what my life is like up here, nor do they care.
They all have their cell phones, instant emergency response, and social services waiting on them hand and foot, I DON’T.
The MOB always gets what it wants in here California because they have the most votes and loudest voices.
Not a single one of those (big city) losers knows what it is like to have to cut your own fire line when the forest is burning right up to your property lines and and there is no help to be had.
Not a single one of the welfare queens or kings realizes what it is like to know that if you screw up on a job, that the nearest medical help is an hour and a half away, and that is by helicopter.
We don’t bother to call 911 because the response time is about 2 hours, by then what’s going to happen is ancient history.
We have the Electoral College (at least at the Presidential level) so that those of us who don’t live in the BIG CITIES still have some kind of representation out here in the boondocks.
I’m sure you DULLARDS at the NYT,LAT,ABC,NBC,MSNBC,CNN, and the rest of the major LIB media think it would be just fine if the entire nation was RULED out of DC,NYC,LA,San Fran and the other major population cesspools.
Those of us out here in what you call “FLY OVER COUNTRY”
don’t happen to agree; we think the system put in place by people a whole lot smarter and forward thinking than you miserable worms is working just fine.
So, in closing I will just give you a quote from the character of Valentine in the old movie TREMORS.

F#####CK YOU.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I take it you mean a jury trial and not attainder by Congress. In a sane world, it would not take much to come back with a swift finding of guilt for treason according to the definition listed in Article 3 Section 3 of the Constitution.
