I was in Afghanistan, in the same province, when these people got snatched.
There was a huge effort to try to get them back.
Lots of special ops types doing raids looking for them at the time.
Typical clueless dumbasses want to do something like go hiking in Afghanistan and have no idea what danger they put themselves, AND OTHERS, in.
From what I remember, she was not only pregnant at the time, but was also on some special type of medication.
Going hiking in a Third World war-torn hellhole, while pregnant and on meds.
Amazing.
Back in the 70s Afghanistan was a big backpacker-hippie tourist destination, famous for hospitality and drugs. I knew lots of Canadians who went there—perhaps this young couple knew one or more of them and failed to acknowledge how much times have changed.
I've heard the same thing. Afghanistan back in the 60s and 70s was like Amsterdam, especially cities like Herat.
The kids will grow up to be Taliban muzzie fighters. This is a made for TV movie scenario. The kids eventually grow up to lead the next generation of Jihad. Mom and dad go back to Afghanistan to find their lost children.
Mom and dad are captured, taken to see their kids who order a head chopping.
