Poll: Dems more likely to unfriend people due to political posts

Democratic voters are almost three times as likely to have "blocked, unfriended, or stopped following someone on social media" after Donald Trump's victory, according to a study released Monday.

The non-partisan Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI ) found 24 percent of Democrats disassociated themselves from people on social media because of a political postings, while only nine percent of both Republicans and independents report doing the same to those in social media circles.

When breaking down categories further using conservative and liberal characterizations, liberals say they eliminated someone from their social media circle due to what they shared online 28 percent to 8 percent of conservatives.

For self-described moderates, 11 percent say they blocked, unfriended or unfollowed someone due to what they posted online. . .

Identity politics uses several powerful instincts to maintain political conformity.

One is dividing everyone into fearful tribes, so they readily obey what the “protector” says. And by combining ideology with tribal identity, like “all Jews must worship Yaweh or be killed / expelled”, you get social pressure to enforce ideological conformity, aka, “dude, you can’t say conservative stuff or you’re not really black”.

Another tactic is “we’re moral for belonging to this group”, easy morality via membership that enables them to look down on the unbelievers as inferior merely for not believing in that ideology. It also enables violence against the unbelievers when they equate words to violence, which is why calling dissenting views an attack is so damn dangerous for the rest of us. But it enables the violent authoritarians to literally assault critics in and outside the groups, backed by moral authority to do so, while scaring members into greater compliance and incentivizing the most violent to police the others because they have permission to do so.

That’s because, for many liberals, politics is their religion. They put all their hope in Obama and Hilary. Not all conservatives rely on God, but more look to Him for true salvation.

Had to block (not unfriend) a long time friend of mine this morning. He is now an attorney down in Miami who I have known since I was in middle school. I was able to live with his constant political posts during the election (even though I ignored them). However since then it has been nothing but sour grapes 24/7. I love following politics but i’m smart enough to know that i’m not going to change anyones opinions by posting on Facebook. It is a shame, because he is an otherwise great guy.

Not surprising in the least.

Unfriending or blocking someone on social media is a personal, little form of censorship.

Nobody hates free speech more than a liberal.

Yeah, that is exactly the types of things they said. They were basically saying that I support sexism and rape. I know they will say “I didnt really mean you, but most of Trump supporters.” F-em.

I didn’t really mind them saying bad things about Trump. It was when they insult ed his supporters, which since I was one, they were insulting me.

Most were “old friends” that I would never see again anyway. Whtever that thing was that made us friends, long passed. I cut off two cousins and three sister in laws.

Yeah, I don’t like reading political stuff on Facebook no matter the viewpoint. Especially when someone post it in a smug-ass way.

I didn’t even tell these people not to contact me. I just blocked them. People like this deserve no warning.

I found some people to be surprise Trump supporters. Hillary is a bitch and the whole country knows it. Plain and simple, that is why she lost.

I finally agree with the Democrats. Ain’t nobody got time for liberals in their lives in any way.

Yes, they are much less tolerant with anyone who does not think in lockstep with them. It comes from the attitude that they are “morally and intellectually” our superiors.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Well, in my judgment “tolerance” in regard to Marxist-inspired, anti-American leftists is a major weakness of people on the Right. I despise these people because they are consciously working to destroy my country and jeopardize the welfare of me and my family. I completely shun them and that includes family members and neighbors.
