Dear America, Why Did You Let Us Down?
NYSlimes ^ | 12/16/16 | Lisa Pryor

In Australia, and around the world, we have been living this presidential transition with you. We watched the debates on our lunch breaks, we scrolled through news on our phones as the voting results were announced, in the warm light of a spring day.

Since the election I have cried many times, in the shower, in the car, as the conventions that define liberal Western democracy are stripped away by Donald J. Trump, with every distressful appointment, each impulsive outburst. I have embarrassment of grief for a government that is not mine and for a country that does not belong to me. It feels as if we’re mourning the death of an idea called America.

***

Visiting America itself gave us the sensation of having stepped into the television, into something bigger and better. For a time when I was a teenager my father worked in the coal industry in West Virginia. He would return with stories about new things we could not imagine, like cable television with 50 stations. Packed in his suitcase were running shoes for us, in styles that had not arrived here yet. That was more than 20 years ago.

***

For all the intractable problems in our region, there is a sense of forward movement. When we visit America now, it feels like the opposite, like decay. Roads, airports, an economy, perhaps even a society, falling to pieces. We are left in awe by the extreme poverty as well as the extreme wealth. And maybe it is because of your poetry about yourself that the turning current has been harder for Americans themselves to see.

The coal industry is almost dead--thanks to her heroes. And that decaying America she bemoans was not neglected under Donald Trump. It was her heroes once again.

This lady is supposedly a medical doctor. Maybe she'll do an assisted suicide on herself and all her friends.

The NYT’s tears are delicious and invigorating. Conservatives should have had this delicacy years ago.

Why do these articles cheer me to no end?! Dumb shats reveal, without meaning to, that the past 8 years are what brought on decay and hopelessness. They are evil, pathetic, and trying to misdirect other dimwits. Go Trump!!

This is what eight years of living under people you admire does for you. Who do think's been President for the last eight years? Trump?

Uh, a better question lisa is why your hero the lyin’ king has let US down for the past 8 years? We sucked it up and life went on. I’m pretty sure the next 8 years are going to be laced with calls for impeachment every week from the screaming meemees on the left. That would be the alt-left radical socialist extremists. Do us a favor and stay in the land down under.

Dear Lisa,

It is a measure of your colossal ignorance that you choose to publish this plea in the newspaper most reviled by, and the one least likely to be read by Trump voters.

Please take time to educate yourself on such details. Because right now, we are just laughing at you.

Sincerely, nwrep

This woman is an idiot. "Your country is falling apart... how could you not vote for a continuation of that?!?"

>>Since the election I have cried many times, in the shower, in the car,<<

Phrases like “Since the election I have cried many times, in the shower, in the car,” make me smile and laugh. The idea it happens OVER AND OVER is a joy that keeps giving.

I don’t remember any Conservatives physically crying after obozo’s win — and there were a LOT of reasons to do so.

That is because Conservatives Deal With It.

The winning — it is OVERWHELMINGLY great!

Another whining foreign Leftist whom we can ignore. They don’t know what a real American values. It isn’t running shoes or cable TV. It’s FREEDOM, and our greedy, oppressive government was infringing on our right to be left alone to live in freedom. So we are working to restore that freedom that God gives us as our right. So many heroes have died to preserve that precious birthright, the least we can do is vote to preserve it.

In her view, though, the falling apart started when Trump was elected — Everything was going just fine until then. It’s been the fastest falling apart in all of human history.

I look at people like her and then I thank God that I’m not like that. I couldn’t imagine being in such a frame of mind. It’s quite nightmarish, actually.

Sorry, but the “Deplorables in Fly-Over Country” see the situation quite differently. Perhaps is you liberals would move out of your east coast/west coast comfort zones you would begin to see the light and why Ms. Hillary did not win the election.

Ahhh, Christmas Down Under. That’d be a dream vacay this Winter. I suspect there is way more abject poverty in India and China and Cuba and Venezuela. I’m sure this wretch (wench? wrench?) has a ton of issues with Aussie gov’t to occupy her concern trolling.

Apparently, she has us mistaken for someone who gives a rodents rectum about “letting them down”. We are far more concerned about how much WE have been let down by this present administration. The USA will now be FIRST on our new administrations agenda. Thank GOD. Go Trump...and Make America GREAT AGAIN!
