Beloved Harlem deer died for the sins of Gov. Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio

Of all of the players in the zoological drama that led to today’s death of Harlem’s beloved deer — Mayor de Blasio, Gov. Cuomo and the cervine himself — only the deer is completely innocent.

Inside the Gov. Cuomo, Mayor De Blasio feud

The governor and the mayor? Perhaps someone can arrange for both of them to be transported elsewhere.

Let’s remember the facts: Sometime late last month or early this month, a deer showed up in Harlem’s Jackie Robinson Park, delighting residents and not really bothering anyone.

But on Thursday, he fled to a nearby housing project and city officials captured him, citing a threat to public safety.

Then the city issued a death sentence. “Because transporting deer causes them great stress and because relocated deer have very low survival rates,” Parks Department spokesman Sam Biederman told the Times, “the city still believes that the most humane option here is euthanasia.”

Gov. Andrew “Bigfoot” Cuomo did it again, overstepping Mayor de Blasio and playing a role in the death of Harlem’s deer.

That’s some pretty screwed-up talk, reminiscent of Vietnam-era strategy of destroying a village just to save it. In essence, the city was saying that taking the deer’s life was a better option than allowing the stressed-out deer to live.

Dear oh deer

Enter Gov. Cuomo, whose spirit animal is obviously Sasquatch. Andrew “Bigfoot” Cuomo did what he always does: he pressured the city to change its plan — in this case, to relocate the deer instead of kill it.

The result? The deer died anyway — a victim of the very stress that the de Blasio administration predicted yet didn’t actually have a plan for.

Young buck: You gotta love this guy.

He couldn’t have been lured back to a park?

He couldn’t have been treated by an animal shrink?

Gov. Cuomo tramples over city’s plan to euthanize deer

He couldn’t have been just left alone?

No, he had to become a pawn of the latest battle between Gov. Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio.

Rest in peace, you cute little deer. Your blood is on our leaders’ hands.

Virtually every year we have a doe give birth to a fawn in our field. When this happens we stop using our back driveway for several weeks until the fawn is strong enough to leave the property.

Twice we have had twin fawns. Cut little things.

When I farmed my first cut of hay was always around the time does fawned. I would come upon day old ones and go around them in the haybine. I learned sadly that the mothers refuse to return if chased off and the field is cut.

Deer are notorious for killing trees by eating off the bark.

Somehow, I doubt the lack of more appealing food was going to be a problem for that animal.

I would have made sure it got the occasionally flea & tick scrub though.

Come to think of it, I know exactly why Cuomo got involved:

I think it was Leona Helmsley that left a billion+ to "animals". Cuomo's father, Saint Mario, along with his cronies, were the executors of the estate, and got judge to change the Helmsley's will enough to allow them to funnel the money into their own pockets.

Animal shelters in NYS were not amused.

If the LSM were to point out that the "Queen of Mean", even while dead, could have helped the black community in NYC enjoy nature, but the corrupt, white, anti-woman elite destroyed a means of private funding...

I’m thinking this buck was part of another protected group. He had only one antler so I am thinking he had begun to identify as female and was in the process of transitioning to a doe.

This is democrats writ large: If you want your deer you can keep your deer.

Except when you can't, then there's no deer for anyone and you shut the hell up.

Without NYC, NY State is deep Red.

We voted in Pataki and I was fortunate to work with his staff during his administration. They were polite and treated everyone with respect. Spitzer's staff were animals, like him, as were Paterson's.

My home town of the Bronx voted like 80% for Hitlery. A disgrace. But most of the folks I knew there bugged out when they saw the writing on the wall......as did my family 50 or so years ago when I was in HS.

“The city fined him $110 per day until he got rid of the goat.”

Sounds like another neighbor had a grudge.

This is the kind of ____ that happens when politicians who don’t know jack about things stick their noses in. Same thing with NYC public schools, absolutely ruined by Bloomberg and now Big Jerk Dumblassio. That poor deer wasn’t harming anyone and in fact, was giving urbanites a chance to see something of the wild besides rats and pigeons. Why couldn’t they have enlisted someone from the world-class Bronx Zoo to move this poor creature, a little spike buck? They have all sorts of experience with delicate wildlife. But no, they had to have the NYPD, with no experience, come in and over-trank it. Who’s to say this wasn’t Dumblassio’s little “giving the finger” to Cuomo, and the poor deer was the helpless pawn in their stupid pissing contest?
