Hillary Campaign ignored dire warnings from Michigan ground team, decided to day drink instead

The Hillary Clinton campaign repeatedly dismissed the concerns of its own operatives on the ground in Michigan, belittling their work and ignoring warnings that she might lose the state. Photo source: Politico

The staffers based at headquarters in Brooklyn, New York, explicitly ordered operatives in Michigan not to build a voter turnout tracking system, saying they didn’t care about those numbers because their own data showed her winning by 5 points. Perhaps more importantly, they dismissed in-person voter outreach efforts and distributing literature as a waste of time, and discouraged the collection of information from what contact volunteers did make with voters.

“Operatives watched packets of real-time voter information piled up in bins at the coordinated campaign headquarters. The sheets were updated only when they got ripped, or soaked with coffee. Existing packets with notes from the volunteers, including highlighting how much Trump inclination there was among some of the white male union members the Clinton campaign was sure would be with her, were tossed in the garbage,” Politico reports.

Clinton’s arrogant mindset apparently caused the campaign to miss key voter trends, such as the loss of white union members to Donald Trump in states such as Michigan and Pennsylvania. On the morning of Election Day, the campaign was so confident of a Clinton victory, staffers began drinking in the afternoon and making phone calls to potential transition team picks.

Around 1 p.m. on Election Day, an operative on the ground in Michigan called headquarters to warn them the voter turnout numbers they collected (in defiance of the orders to the contrary) were not looking good for Clinton. Turnout in urban precincts were down 25 percent, the operative told headquarters, and the campaign should possibly be worried.

“Nope, they were told,” Politico reports. “She was going to win by 5. All Brooklyn’s data said so.”

Political Science majors will still be dissecting Hillary’s defeat a century from now. Entire classes will be taught on it. On paper she had it all, the money, the entire media establishment, the (supposed) best advisors and support staff. I think the most telling thing is when she went off on that rant about a month before the election and screeched “Why am I not 50 points ahead?!?”. That to me is what doomed the campaign, they really believed she should have been 50 points ahead. They thought the election was over the moment Donald Trump won the nomination, and from that point on they spent more time worrying about who was going to have what position in the Clinton administration, or things like padding the popular vote in states like California than actually getting Hillary elected.

what about the story that the fireworks were canceled two days before the election? the fireworks must have been canceled for a different reason than the obvious guess?

Maybe they thought that the fraud in Detroit was going to be enough to carry that state (kind of like in Los Angeles with CA or Chicago with IL or even Minnesota with Minneapolis/St.Paul).

But arrogance lasts forever...

I guess I forgot to also mention Oregon with the fraud in Portland or Nevada with Las Vegas or Virginia with the felons.

The firework cancelling may have been because there was enough doubt that she would not win, and the fireworks company wanted a hard financial agreement signed, such as a purchase order, so they could deploy barges and equipment.

By that point, catch up campaigning in the blue wall states would be desperation.

I had a boss like this once. I ended up quitting because he was so bloody stupid. That was a bit over two years ago.

His business has lost over 70% of their sales revenue since then and is in dire trouble now.

Guess they were figuring on the rigged voting in Detroit to pull them across. Hope Michigan goes in and replaces those crooked machines before the next election.

I believe that is what my late father would have called "counting your chickens before they're hatched".

I welcome stories of any Democrat experiencing a Greek tragedy but even ‘our side’ tends to dismiss one practical reality: Hillary was a sick woman. Still is.

The press could attack Trump in her absence but she was still...absent. Campaign appearances were scripted to the second and she was never onstage for more than 30 min, doing her verbatim reads of the autocue and making her robotic gestures.

She then disappeared for days (plural) to recuperate.

Even if she’d wanted to carpet-bomb the swing states with appearances she didn’t have a tenth of the stamina to do so.

Jailing the crooked people would be more effective.

Hillary decided she didn’t need to grease the palms that would get her elected so they sat it out.
Democrats won’t make that mistake again.

That was a bad optic. It was a “Stay home. You don’t need to vote for me. I got this. “ optic.
