It's Official: Trump Picks Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson To Lead The State Department
Zero Hedge ^ | 12/13/16 | Tyler Durden

Posted on 12/13/2016 5:28:02 AM PST by Enlightened1

Update: It's official, moments ago President-elect Trump confirmed he will nominate ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson to be his secretary of state: In a statement released by his transition team early Tuesday, Trump called Tillerson's career "the embodiment of the American dream."

“Through hard work, dedication and smart deal making, Rex rose through the ranks to become CEO of ExxonMobil, one of the world’s largest and most respected companies," the president-elect said, adding that Tillerson's "tenacity, broad experience and deep understanding of geopolitics make him an excellent choice."

"He will promote regional stability and focus on the core national security interests of the United States. Rex knows how to manage a global enterprise, which is crucial to running a successful State Department, and his relationships with leaders all over the world are second to none," Trump added.

And the obligatory tweet:

After days of speculation and strawmen, and following Mitt Romney's statement earlier, AP is reporting that President-elect Donald Trump has selected Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson to lead the State Department, according to two people close to Trump's transition team.

People need to remember that business relationships are usually not friendly. They are based on taking financial advantage of the person with which you are doing business.

I have many business relationships and almost all of them are friendly. Why? Because they are mutually beneficial. In most cases, a business deal is not a zero sum game. Those who think it is do not stay in business very long.

Of course, your comment borders on the absurd. Business is based on the opposite of taking advantage of your counterparty. Were it so, no one could ever do more than one deal where reality is that people come together over and over and over again to do deals together based on mutual trust and respect. I maintain many very old friends but largely my friends today, were former counter parties. We killed it together.

Uh, No!

Are you 12, a car salesman or just a socialist?

Does Delta despise Boeing because they have to actually PAY for a $300 million dollar 747? No. they enter a financial arrangement that works best for both parties.

Business works with both parties being happy, content and having gotten what each party needs.

Grow your mind and leave the auto sales trade.

I’m sorry you’ve been taken advantage of so many times. It just occurred to me that you may not have known that. Sorry for your losses.

He has a big job to do. Not altogether overseas, but in-house. It has over the years become a den of ideologs whose liberal views trump good sense. A good housecleaning is in order.

What’s really sad is that you accept fake friendships that stem from business dealings. Granted, there are no doubt many that do evolve into true friendships, but that’s probably not the rule.

Please enlighten the rest of us as to your experience and expertise in “business dealings”.

We’d like to understand how & why you’ve reached the conclusions you’ve presented this morning.

I agree. Unless it is a win-win, it will not last.

I see my competitors absolutely raping customers with their prices and then complaining about customer loyalty. Locally, one by one, my competitors have gone out of business.

I started my business by addressing what people hate about buying imprinted and embroidered sportswear for their company - set up charges and minimums. While they are standard in the industry, people view them as a way of squeezing one more buck out of them.

Having to pay a set up charge, again, is the way companies coerce customers into staying.

We do not charge set up charges in most instances, have no minimums, and give customers discounts based on their total purchases with us over time. Buy a dozen shirts and get the 12 piece price, buy 24 shirts a couple months later and get the 36 piece price. Need only 3 shirts for the new employee? They are at the same quantity discount as your last order.

I was told that if we implemented this we would go out of business. Well, it is 8 years in, we are thriving, and my competitors are dropping like flies.

The power of win-win!

Who am I to boast? It certainly sounds as though you know far more than I. If anyone can enlighten the masses, certainly it must be you. Me? I am just a humble sinner who knows well the selfishness and depravity of man and whose expectations for my fellow man are adjusted accordingly. Best!

Any true “dealmaker” knows that there has to be something for both sides for the deal to fly. “Taking advantage of” is rather a misleading statement. A good deal has to be good for both sides.

Jonah Goldberg ends up on NPR panels, and gets along pretty well with liberals. He's the token....something.

One of the results of the recent election season has been the outing of CINOs...like Goldberg, George Will, Bill Kristol and a host of others. All these people do is talk and write, that's it. They don't like Trump because he's a man of action, unlike them - men of contemplation. It's funny too, because these people who contemplate are all impressed with their intellectual superiority. Which comes full circle and makes them a lot like.....liberals!

Contemplation is ok, but the future of our republic shouldn't depend on it.

All this winning! Every day more winning!

Serious question: is this winning? Why? I don't know anything about this guy other than he ran a big company.

is this winning? Why?

If the liberals' heads are exploding, it is winning.

I don't know the guy either, but I like that he knows how to negotiate with world leaders. And if Donald likes him, I like him.

Plus the Left is whining about it... Icing on the cake.
