Barack Obama, Donald Trump Forge an Unlikely Rapport
Wall Street Journal ^ | Dec. 9, 2016 | Peter Nicholas and Carol E. Lee

They had never met, and they had had only harsh words toward each other during the campaign. But President Barack Obama and his successor, Donald Trump, are discussing policy and politics with more frequency than many anticipated after this past year’s bitterly fought election.

The two men have spoken a handful of times by phone since their 90-minute meeting in the Oval Office last month, setting aside resentments that built up during the campaign, advisers to both said. Though it is hardly a “bromance,” both men see it in their mutual interest to stay in touch and forge a rapport during the transition, aides said.

On Friday, Mr. Trump said he has gotten along “so well” with Mr. Obama, and he dissuaded his supporters from booing when he mentioned the president’s name. “No, no—he’s really doing great. He’s been so nice,” he told them at an event in Louisiana.

Naturally Trump wants to understand what Obama has done and his priorities.

As for Obama, he may be hoping that by explaining things in more detail to Trump, Trump may not be as harsh in overturning Obama's executive orders.

It is a hope for a win-win for both of them.

But I wouldn't worry about Trump being unduly influenced by Obama.

You hope it’s a win for Obama? Seriously?

I hope it’s a win only for Trump. Only thing I want Obama to win is an express ticket to hell. Sooner that ship leaves the better.

Trump is just trying to figure out how to handle him since Obama said he was going to comment on everything that Trump does.......

and it takes a one on one dialogue.

In other words, Trump is trying to get a handle on the pr***.

Trump knows one can learn a lot from examining a failure.
And Obama knows he can learn a lot from- well, from anyone.

Yes, if the LSM says something’s true, it’s probably not.

This isn’t fake news if Trump said at a rally: “No, no—he’s really doing great. He’s been so nice”.

The “rapport” is such....

Obama: “Here’s what you need to do....”

Trump: “You’re fired...”

We heard “keep your enemies close” when Obama made Hillary his SOS. What could go wrong? What a disaster that strategy turned out to be.

I think this is a sophmoric play to keep the hand-over alive and running come January.

Recall that Obama did some late night tinkering a few months ago to hide things during the hand-off. If Trump can trick this slob into not doing that, it’ll save months of time and headaches.

It’s NOT like Trump to do this. But it’s just a theory. This wouldn’t go along with anything of his that I’ve read or studied.

I said:

“It is a hope for a win-win for both of them. “

I didn’t say that I hoped. My point was that each of them is hoping for a winning outcome for themselves.

I also said that I was not concerned about Trump. He knows exactly what he is doing.

It is probably the first man, a true gentleman, who BO has dealt with that didn’t have some ulterior motive in mind. No dad, no best friend, no brother he claims .
