Did anyone actually bother to tell California it can STOP voting? In English *and* Spanish? Either they are recounting their own ballots to the original total or they have a piss-poor election system to still be adding original votes a MONTH after the election was held.

Candidates don’t campaign to win the popular vote. They campaign in swing states to assemble the necessary electoral college majority.

Most states are considered “safe” for one party or another. There are few battleground states.

Hillary lost IA, OH, PA and FL - your classic swing states.

WI used to be reliably Blue but had been trending Red for the last several election cycles. Makes up for the loss of VA.

The Dems/Clintons have been funded by “contributions” (bribes) from foreign governments for years. Maybe the foreign Countries should also vote (more than do now, that is)?

My preferred answer is that under our system:

We have NEVER held a NATIONAL election under which, acting as NATIONAL citizens the PEOPLE elect a president.

No, our system, was set up to guard against the historically proven tyrannical threats of a powerful centralized government, whether that power was yielded by a dictator or by the masses. Accordingly, as a check against BOTH federal power AND mob rule, the STATE LEGISLATORS get to choose the electors for their state, a power which they have seperately delegated to qualifying STATE RESIDENTS, and so we now hold 50+ (+ for DC) STATE elections to choose those electors.

So since their is not, and never has been a NATIONAL election for a president (aside from the date on which the 538 electors cast their ballots), then there is NO SUCH THING as a “National Popular Vote”.

This is the most perceptive comment I’ve yet seen on this thread.

I didn’t catch or remember that one.

There’s probably more examples, but I’ve heard and read about that 1960 WS many times because of how great the run lead (55-27) of the “losers” was over the “winners.” More than double and still they accepted that they lost!

election night Hillary was up by about 150,000 votes, and now its nearly 3 million, how does this happen? from where do all of these additional votes come?

Hillary won California by over 4 million votes and New York by 2.5. So what? Winning the popular vote and a cab license gets you a job. Just winning the popular vote doesn’t.

I’ve said this before:

Our founding fathers created a Senate that represents the state with 2 senators per state and the House with the number of representatives proportional to the population.

The founding fathers realized that basing decisions only on popular vote gave disproportionate weight to the population centers.

The Electoral College parallels our Legislature structure.

“Where do all of these additional votes come?”

From cities like LA, Detroit, Philadelphia and others where voter fraud is epidemic not only on election night but even days later when they can reliably be counted on to find more and more “absentee ballots” for the Democrats - as needed.

The difference between HRC and DJT in New York County, Bronx County, Cook County, and Los Angeles County is 3.2 million votes.

Four counties. FOUR COUNTIES.

The wisdom of the Electoral College has never been more obvious.

Yeah, and my team got more first-downs that your team, so it’s not fair that I lost by 21 points - Democrat “thinking”.
