My wife is ex-mormon. I never was. We both continue to "prep", and it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the apocalypse, though we would be in a good spot should the apocalypse happen. Our main focus, especially over the last 8 years, has been making sure that, should either of us become unemployed for an extended period of time, we would have enough basics to get us and our cats through.
I've never heard of anyone whining about wasted food. We certainly haven't had that issue. The program is simple: rotate your stock. As for sharing, we've always put enough away that, if the need arises, we could share (reasonably) with family members/close friends. And for those bands of marauding thugs out for a free meal, well, I got something for them, too.
I realize there is plenty of hatred to go around for mormons. Despite the fact that I've never agreed with them, I think it's sad the amount of actual hatred that exists for mormons. I don't hate them. I feel a little sorry for them, what with falling for a false religion created by a con artist and such.

Almost every exmo I know does. Not rotating fast enough, buying too much etc. Money and time and food wasted. And Mormon view is it is for them, not others and certainly not gentiles? I don’t hate Mormons, I spent 20 years owning a transition ministry to help those who leave. Few hate mormons, most pity them and want them out of the cult.
Where is your wife faith wise now? How old was she when she left? Convert or born in? Temple? Yes it does affect the view on things like this and defense of the LDS church.
