It's not hindsight. There was plenty of foresight there.

Go back and read the public comments by a former U.S. Defense Secretary back in the early 1990s in which he stated in no uncertain terms that a U.S. invasion of Iraq would be disastrous for the U.S. and for Iraqis alike.

That "former U.S. Defense Secretary" was Dick Cheney.

He later became one of the key drivers of the U.S. invasion of Iraq when he was vice president under George W. Bush.

He knew exactly how Iraq was going to end up, but he pushed that invasion anyway.
