Donald Trump picks Gen. John Kelly for Department of Homeland Security secretary
CBS News ^ | December 7 2016 | CBS Staff

Donald Trump is tapping Gen. John Kelly to run the Department of Homeland Security, CBS News confirms.

The final request and acceptance, sources told CBS’ Major Garrett, occurred while Kelly was traveling in Europe. His pick for DHS secretary will be announced by the transition staff in the coming days.

Kelly is the third general tapped by the president-elect, joining Gen. James Mattis, Mr. Trump’s pick to become the next secretary of Defense, and Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, Mr. Trump’s incoming national security advisor.

Like Mattis, Kelly is a Marine with a reputation for bluntness.

Petraeus was a very talented general officer. Too bad he didn’t know how to keep his mouth shut. Or his pants zipped for that matter.

People fail to understand the professional context of Trump’s remarks.
By taking into “account” the current office holder’s views on cabinet selections, he’s showing respect for the office and person.

This is all basic business etiquette and notwithstanding his mistakes, Trump very much is a believer in leadership and example.

This is what he’s doing here. He will not publicly say anything negative in any shape or form around his discussions with Obama. He won’t detail disagreements, merely cite there are “policy differences.”

This A+ professionalism and if you follow the President-elect, you will see this is a standard practice. It’s very telling and an insight to his true approach on the proper way to do things.

Expect more of it; a lot more.

LeMay was Army until 1947, when the Air Force was rightly taken away from the Army (and again, it only became a part of the Army due to the Army’s political pull). If anything, most of the Army generals at the time were against using resources to develop the Air Corps, because it took money away from their horses, trench-digging tools and officers’ clubs.

It’s still dancing to the tune of the left, look at us, look how NOT racist we are. We are going to be called racist no matter what we do, so let’s just do the right thing. I used to believe in the best man for the job theory, but the conversation has shifted to the extent that the only thing that seems to matter anymore is identity politics. What group do you belong to seems to be the only question that matters. And if White People continue to refuse to stand up for their own interests, then the left will continue to practice their ‘diversity’ against us.

Trump pledged to defend America & make it safe again .... I see Mattis & Kelly as putting some “can do” behind those words. Personally, I’m for bringing troops home from ‘wherever’ & tasking them to defend our southern border from the INVASION that is going on every day. Not saying at all this would happen (can you imagine the exploding heads on the Left?) but Kelly would know just how to do that.

Oh, and btw, Chesty Puller was no slouch in the strategy dept. He was, of course, more of a fighter than a planner, but that’s because the Marines have been more a tool of the Navy than anything else.

All kidding aside, Mattis is an extraordinarily gifted general, and would have served any of the Services - or any nation, for that matter - very, very well. We are VERY lucky that he not only exists and is willing to continue to serve, but that Trump recognizes his talent and the need for it. No other person running for President would have picked him - yet another reason to truly admire Trump and his wisdom.

.

You probably have a defective car radio.

Probably would do well not to listen to it.

“False” info about Pizzagate????

Damn hard to believe.

The Air Force wasn’t rightly taken away from the Army. It is still fire support for the vast majority of its mission.

To argue that the Army Air Corps was Air Force is to argue that Army Aviation is Air Force, which it isn’t.

As has been proven time and again, air power doesn’t win wars. Occupation and destruction of the enemy wins wars.

I’m the one around here who actually doesn’t want Petraeus or Mattis. Both are anti-Israel and both favor the 2 state solution.

Petraeus couldn’t keep it in his pants and gave classified into to a reporter who got it by bedding him.

Mattis kowtowed to politicians and threw Chessani and the Haditha Marines under the bus to get his 4th star. In that effort, he was found guilty of unlawful command influence.

Petraeus was too good to have happen to him what did. But he pulled the trigger on himself.

Coast Guard is under the DHS. We need someone with military experience, just like DoD

Everyone needs to understand what talk is around. The Coast guard will be the "other wall" that is the West coast, Gulf coast, East coast. Don't think for a second that a physical wall along the Mexican border (phase one) is going to stop the flow from squirting around the edges. USCG, phase two.
