Burning Man is in some ways more regimented.

Since I have not heard of any serious accidents, perhaps they have a institutional awareness of safety precautions and practices.

Many yuppies and yuppie type millenials attend every year. It is expensive to attend ($800/ticket).

Winnebagos costing hundreds of $ / day are rented months in advance.

Burning Man strikes me (from a distance) as having been “poshified” as of perhaps many years ago.

I still wish I could have attended one (though my enthusiasm may be misplaced).

The day I went there to retrieve my daughter’s trailer, when we arrived at Eight Mile road, we were confronted with five lines of vehicles (that stretched out on to the dry lake bed as far as you could see) being winnowed down to one lane so that they could drive at the posted speed limit (25 mph) of the town of Gerlach (pop. 208) to exit.
We were told to go to 12-Mile road which was the “service entrance.” when we got to the entry post, we were disposed to wait for a Burning Man Ranger, who would escort us to our daughter’s campsite (at 5 mph). Now, the “ranger” who’s name was “Ranger Coyote” was a “lifer” who told us he’d been a “burner” for 14 years, driving an aging Toyota LandCruiser. On the way to the campsite, he picked up a bare-breasted young woman who needed help finding her lost bicycle, but he did manage to get us where we needed to go nonetheless. After we got everything loaded “Ranger Coyote” came back by and since we would have had to go to the back of the long line at 8-Mile road, he took us back to the 12-mile road exit and had the “guards” allow us to leave by that route. Long story short, we were back in the SF Bay Area in about seven hours. The rest of my daughter’s group, all of whom had already left via the normal exit took 32 hours to get back their various places in the SF Bay Area.
BTW, there were dozens of high-end trailers and motor homes billeted in one area for the owners to reclaim later in the week
