Arab media outlets have reported that the IDF targets inside Syria near the capital city of Damascus early Wednesday morning.
The incident has yet to be confirmed by Israeli sources, and the IDF has refused to comment on the report.
According to the claims, large explosions were heard around the El-Mezzeh airbase just outside of Damascus.
No casualties were reported in the attack.
A Syrian state media service report by SANA claimed the attack was made by land-based missile batteries, with no reference to Israeli air units.
"At 3:00 a.m. (0100 GMT), the Israeli enemy fired several surface-to-surface missiles from inside occupied territory."

“I would not want to see Assad replaced but Assad is an ally of Iran and the message from Israel has been Iran is bad, Iran is evil consistently especially on the much very noisy Iran Nuclear Deal issue.”
Americans are so used to good vs. evil scenarios that we are at a loss when dealing with situations where there is no good. (An example of this is how the most hideous dictator of the time went from Stalin to Uncle Joe. Americans had to be convinced the Soviet Union was worth fighting for.) In Syria there are only variations on evil. We have to decide which party is the least evil. A hint here is who do the Christians support? Assad, hands down.
What would happen if the Russians left and Assad fell? The country would fall on itself in an orgy of self-destruction. Whoever wins will wipe out all the other players. Without foreign support nobody has that much power and capability so the stage would be set for a lawless area where nobody is safe. Once Assad is gone the new Syrian government will make Iran and Saudi Arabia look like Pleasantville, Iowa.
A journalist who had lived with the various Syrian groups for a year said this. (Approximately.) The problem is Islam. Each group wants their version and their version alone. No matter who wins they will attempt to crush the others. There is no good guy to root for.
See my post #40 in the thread.
On one side, the people who know what triggered the attack may be unavailable for comment. On the other side, you have the Israelis, who would merely choose not to explain their motives.
#22. The Israelis are on their own side. They have to keep their enemies off-balance and occasionally give them one helluva bloody nose if they threaten them.
The Air Force base is being used by both Russians and Syrians, but also might be a base of operations Hezbollah or Al Qaeda/ISIS affiliates who are trying to attack Israel at its’ northern borders.
It is absolutely not in the interests of Israel to have a Jihad cat fight going on next door. These are very tense times.
Better to have the jihadists fighting each other than uniting against Israel. If all your enemies are standing in the same pool of gasoline, throw in a match and get the hell out of the way.
