And, what do you mean “dream on” — don’t you see the Sunni-Shia blood war going on right from PAkistan to Egypt?

The destruction of the EASTERN part of Aleppo (the Western part stayed in government hands and is quite intact, except for jihadi-"rebel" bombings

The Jihadis will be all killed by Assad.

In Dabiq, the Islamic state was defeated by the other jihadis, but Assad won't go there -- the Turks are in control of that town already. That town, he's left to the Kurds.

Assad wants the stretch of key cities and land from Latakia to Damascus. The north can go to the Kurds and the Euphrates valley to whatever Sunni jihadis are there

Hezbollah is Shia, and supported and commanded by Iran. After the bloodletting in Lebanon, they turned their rockets on Israel. At the moment, they are tied up in Syria fighting anyone opposed to Assad. Hopefully, they will stay tied up there and away from Israel.

Islamic State vs. Islamic Republic, a pox on both of them.

the headline uses the term “liberate” a bit loosely. It’s sort of like the Soviets “liberating” Eastern Europe from the Nazis. With some notable exceptions, wars and civil wars are usually not between good guys and bad guys. They are more often between two bad guys. No matter who wins, the civilians suffer.

Grozny was particularly brutal, with both sides committing atrocities. Thereafter, Russia rebuilt it rather quickly.

I am no military strategist, but seems to me that if you start a war, it’s best to dominate fast and end it as quickly as possible.

Chicago has a high crime and homicide rates, which fluctuate yearly compared to other cities in the U.S. - we may want to call it a ‘war zone’ due to gangs, criminals, and drug cartels, but all else is very much intact including the infrastructure. Not the “devastating war” to which I was referring.
