What would that new policy be? Turn the other cheek?

Nope, just stopping endless war for endless peace. From kill all the Amalekites, Canaanites, Ninevites... to blessed are the peacemakers and we all our children of God. To forgo slaughter and genocide doesn't mean to chuck Christian principles of legitimate self-defense. It's to start consider one's immortal soul in moral actions. Both personally and nationally.

No, ISIS is ~not~ in Aleppo. It’s not a debatable point. They’re simply not there. ISIS territory begins at around Dayr Hanta, down through Marran, Suran, Shamir and Rasm al-Abd; northeast to al-Madyunah; east to Aran and Ayn al-Jihash; and east-southeast to Dayr Hafir. Inside Aleppo is Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, Ahrar al-Sham, Sham Front, al-Zinki, etc, under the banner of Jaish al-Fatah and to a lesser extent Fatah Halab. They not only are not ISIS, they’re enemies of ISIS (with the possible exception of al-Zinki, which seems to tolerate ISIS - leading to conflicts with other parts of the rebel coalition, with JFS usually acting as the “moderator”).

Re, al-Baghdadi: You’re confusing Aleppo with Mosul.

It’s important that if you want to discuss Syria and be taken seriously that you actually learn who is where, what their allegiances are, etc. If you insist that someone is somewhere that they are not, you just look silly.

To simplify my previous response, Trump summed it up best. Let’s start getting along with other countries while having the strongest military on earth. America first. Defend America. The reason Bill Kristol and all of the neocons endorsed Hillary. To them the idea of being American first is, well, literally Hitler.

Thanks to Obama, the SAudis and the Qataris. Can you imagine that the USA would be on the same side as Al Qaeda and the Islamic state, against a secular government??

Hmm. Are you under the impression that it’s ISIS in Aleppo? Aleppo is held by Jaish al-Fatah (JaF), a coalition of rebels (some moderates, but also a lot of islamists, including an estimated 15% of the fighters in the city who are in Jaish Fatah al-Sham (JFS) (formerly Jaish al-Nusra)). JaF opposes both the government and ISIS (who they consider too radical).

The "moderates" are only "moderate" in comparison to the Islamic state. They are still Salafists, Wahabbis who want to "send Christians to Beirut and Alawites to the grave" or worse.

Syria should kill off all the jihadi rebels, whether Islamic state or not

It would also be helpful for FReepers posting here also cited their own allegiance. You clearly side with the jihadis. That's fine, a lot of neocons do. But to somehow push the BS that some jihadis are good, or that if they are not ISIS they are somehow freedom fighters, no longer works. In Aleppo R+6 is going after Jaish al-Fatah in eastern Aleppo pocket. And Jaish al-Fatah is every bit as nefarious and extremist Islamist as ISIS.

Exactly. Jaish al-Fatah jihadis in Aleppo are every bit as loathsome as ISIS. Maybe more so because of their support and direction by outside powers in this proxy war. They are a conglomerate and are being backed directly By Saudi Arabia and Gulfies. But the neocons want us to swallow, feathers and all, that these are Syrian freedom fighters.

Btw, a good place to keep up on developments in Syria, et al., is at the blog Sic Semper Tyrannis. It is run by the former Defense Intelligence Officer for the Middle East at the Defense Intelligence Agency, Col. W. Patrick Lang (USA, ret.). Col. Lang is former Army SOF and taught (Arabic, Middle East studies) at West Point. Lang is anti-jihadi and anti-neocon (and a solid Catholic Christian). And the guys commenting there are every bit as good.

Grozny beats them all in terms of total destruction. But Aleppo was reduced rather quickly. Many religious sites took out as well. And who will rebuild it? Oh wait! AMERICA!

If that happens, the dominant force in the ME will be the jihadist Iranians. Who do you think is backing Assad?

Maybe the Iranian backed jihadists and the ISIS jihadists will annihilate each other. Dream on.

[[Good news! Aleppo should fall soon.]]

It’s both good and bad .
Lot of Christians were murdered there, the jihadis deserve to be pummeled.
The destruction of the city will just move the jihadis somewhere else .

The Sunnis are waiting to gather in Dabiq 25 miles from Allepo. The whole place is about to turn into total mayhem.
I will be surprised if the Turks don’t get involved in this.
