Big data helped Trump even after he scorned it
The Daily Star ^ | December 5, 2016 | Agence France-Presse

Donald Trump derided the use of data and technology tools for his presidential campaign -- but those techniques might well have propelled him to victory.

Trump's stealth digital campaign, thrown together hastily in the final months of the campaign, allowed the Republican billionaire to fine-tune his message and reach voters in crucial Rust Belt states that gave him an Electoral College majority.

During the primaries, Trump dismissed as "overrated" the kinds of data analytics and "micro-targeting" successfully used by President Barack Obama.

But after winning the nomination, he quietly developed a digital strategy led by a political neophyte, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, and a data company whose parent firm worked on the Brexit campaign.

In the final stages of the race, Trump relied on insights generated by Cambridge Analytica, the US unit of British behavioral marketing firm SCL, that allowed his campaign to reach voters in the key states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin that delivered his majority over Democrat Hillary Clinton....

I think what he mocked was that rivals spent tons of money on it but their core messages didn’t connect with voters.

Essentially another article saying that he won despite being a fricking idiot. Especially compared to Obama.

Actually, if he could win on dimes vs. dollars compared to Obama and Hillary, isn’t he the smarter one?

He never once scorned it! He hired a great digital branding team. He used free media to it’s most extent... Just look at his Reddit followers numbered in the quarter million plus.

Trump was always using big data, he just simulated that he wasn't. Trump always tries to appear less than he his. encourages people to be over confident when facing him.

What self-serving and self-aggrandizing crap. They still don’t get it. As Trump said the other night we’re the movement and he is the vehicle.

Even articles that acknowledge Trump won still call him a moron.

Of course, but that is not how the author is framing it. He basically is saying that he was clueless but got lucky thanks to help from others like his son-in-law.

They still haven't quite accepted that Trump plays 3 dimensional chess while they see him as playing checkers like a disengaged juvenile who just moves pieces without any forethought.

But that's a good thing, just keep underestimating him MSM.

Maybe this is why Trump and Conway were able to say they’d win the popular vote.

But, he won every....single....time.

You don’t get a 100% win ratio while being an idiot.

They used it in a different way.

Obama's was automated delivery-based email/text: "Hey pinhead, are you registered? The deadline is tomorrow." "Hey pinhead, tomorrow is election day, do you have a way to the polls?" "Hey pinhead, today is election day, are you taking two illegals with you?"

Trump's was: "Hey friend, I'm going to be here with a bunch of your friends at a massive rally. Would you like to come?" And then Trump delivered the voter message in person, which was very evident in his stump sign-off the last two weeks.

Where they did use big data similarly was where to plan those last two weeks of attack. Bannon said they were signaled that MI was truly up for grabs.

"He shows up 3.5 hours late in Michigan at 1 in the morning and has 35,000 people waiting in the cold. When they got [Clinton] off the donor circuit she went to Temple University and they drew 300 or 400 kids."-Steve Bannon

Trump has played his own game, by his own rules, since entering the race, a game the MSM is unfamiliar with.

Trump has hit the media hard up side their collective heads with a 2x4. They just haven't seen the swelling or felt the bruising yet.

If you think the campaign was exciting, just wait until Trump starts to govern. The media will burn themselves up trying to figure out what he's up to.

Keep the pantry stocked with plenty of popcorn, because it's about to get real interesting after he takes office in a month or so. This could be a very fun ride.

Sounds to me like a advertisement for their services. Fact is, 120 million voters isn’t even “small data” much less big data.
