Trump was Right to Stand Up to China on Taiwan
Frontpage ^ | December 4, 2016 | Daniel Greenfield

The United States policy on Taiwan is deeply shameful. We went from treating it as the legitimate government of China over the brutal, murderous Communist dictatorship that rules it now, to accepting China's view of Taiwan as a rogue province that must avoid mentioning the fact that it is an independent nation lest it upset Beijing too much.

The media is shrilly fuming that Trump caused a "diplomatic crisis" by taking a phone call from the President of Taiwan. They want our policy toward Taiwan to be dominated by fear of China to such a degree that the President-elect can't even take a phone call from the President of Taiwan because that would acknowledge that it exists and that she exists.

China cannot and should not control our foreign policy toward Taiwan. Especially since Taiwan is an ally and the PRC is an enemy.

It's because we really really need iPhones and all the other garbage made in China.

This was Nixon's idea, a Republican. And all the Pubbies after him were ok with it.

Liberals are too stuck on their feelings to understand the brilliance of this machination in business terms. This is a positively inspiration maneuver. Hey, maybe it is time the U.S. recognized the 'Republic of China' instead of the 'People's Republic of China' -- liberal heads would explode!

About 15 years ago, I remember commenting on this site about why we should give China MFN status.
It’s so great to see the turn around. I guess it was the GOPe, the likes of which we don’t see here anymore so much, that argued that it was a good thing.
It seems I eventually get what I wish for... :)
Gotta be careful with that, I guess.

= = = = = = = = = = =
Lets see BEFORE sworn in or even electoralcolleged

Got Ford & Carrier to stay in country.
Reassured England
WeeWeed off the Chinese & Middle Easterners.
Throwing the ‘world’ off axis just naming potential members of his Cabinet
Got the Libs talking to themselves
Got the Union on his ‘side’ (see #1)

Saw this one yesterday...
The US has been trying to get rid of Castro for almost 60 years and Trump has the job done in 3 weeks and BEFORE taking office

Think what he can accomplish once he gets signed in..

Yes, we’re only going to be successful if we can point out the problems of Reagan and Bush (i.e. illegal immigration) and not just the Dems

Early in the debates Trump said something about other countries being a friend or a foe.

Not all Republicans but enough that human decency for a number of what I would call “the unifying brutalities” are bringing together Han Chises in sufficient numbers that no one in a position external to China can question them. Beyond those behind Tiananmen Square introspective examination of the character under communism/authoratitism is rare and enough of the people are doing well enough that is not like to happen.

These touch stones include the crushing and unifying with Taiwan, Tibet and the genocide ofTibetan Buddhists/nationalists, the maintenance of an insane nuclear regime in North Korea, the crushing of Hong Kong and its tiny spark of freedom. No one Chinese communist group can question these or their attendant atrocities without the condemnation by the majority and the unattractive possibility of war and its unknowns.

Until Trump. Yet to be seen.
