Great countries don’t cower behind trade barriers.

We were a great country when we had tariffs. They are not barriers but are a way to equalize the playing field. You and all those who insist on the STUPID idea that we should continue our same old same old self destruction because of some misconception are demanding that we try to nail a floorboard with no hammer in the toolbox!
That part of the world economy is mostly OUR Effort, inventions, dollars, and genius. I am no longer and never was willing to sacrifice our economy to a Communist world control. The New World Order, so highly touted by the UN is GLOBALIST COMMUNISM! We and we alone can take back FREEDOM to lives our lives as we INDIVIDUALLY see fit! We can and WILL build back our economy and our strength as a nation by wisely using the whole toolbox, not just the things some people think are politically correct.
Mexicans get a fraction of the wages of Americans; because (on average) they are only a fraction as productive. That doesn’t mean the individual Mexicans don’t work hard — it means that their entire economy (infrastructure, political system, education system, etc.) does not work as well as the American economy.
The cost of living is much different in other countries. It’s not a 1 to 1 so in order to for for workers to compete with dirt road country works in other countries the policy should either be to ensure that other countries are treating the workers fairly, keep the cost of living increases in the U.S much, much lower (Not sure quantitative easing helps with this), force other countries to apply the exact same over head costs (i.e regulations) as the U.S or tarriffs to balance all of the above. You’re never going to be able to compete on a wage level because Mexico, China and the like force their people to live off of $1/day. In some cases this is done because the state pays for everything (see China). Bottom line, it’s not free and fair at all. For Conservatives to suggest that it is and that American companies just have to find a way to do things more efficiently is a bold faced lie. On principal, I agree; fair trade is good but you’re not trading with other “American-Like” countries so foreign governments are putting their thumb on the scale to say the least.
I’m pretty sure you meant to address that post to someone else; because I certainly wasn’t suggesting that “American companies just have to find a way to do things more efficiently ...”.
The WTO is a corrupt and biased org (against the US) like the UN. The WTO can stick it where the sun don’t shine.

Yeah there will be a few soybean farmers who will have to change crops because of retaliatory tariffs.
Have you looked at how much we import compared to what we export it’s not even close.
It's not so far off. We exported $190B in September and had a trade deficit of $39B.
And that's with the dollar at historic highs.
I heard it was state department briefings.
