I like the carrot but not the stick. Instead, we need set up a tax/legal environment that encourages companies to do business here in general. That’s the president’s real job.
Will we give deeper tax breaks to companies that move INTO the US?
We’re going to lower the corporate tax rate to 15%.
But here’s the flip side: it will cost you double to off-shore your operations abroad.
You won’t get a tax cut for shedding American jobs.
Well, yeah, that's why one's called a carrot and one's called a stick.
Your concern has been noted, logged and filed.
A national retail sales tax would tax imports, remove federal tax costs from exports, and repatriate dollars.
It would take an amendment to repeal the income tax... but now is a great time for that. Both houses are nominally controlled by R. R has a nice number of state legislatures under control too.
Do it! Repeal the income tax and replace with a national RETAIL sales tax.
Exactly.
Instead, we need set up a tax/legal environment that encourages companies to do business here in general. Thats the presidents real job. Some people need to pay more attention to what he actually says rather than what someone else says he said.
If you did that you'd know your concerns were addressed in his words long ago.
I couldn't agree more. More carrot. Less stick.
Sometimes the stick is necessary to get folks to recognize the carrot. It's up to them if they prefer the stick.
Trump will use carrots and sticks.... and everything else he can find. He’s a fighter.
“I like the carrot but not the stick..”
I agree with you, although it’s early. The carrot of a sane tax and regulatory regime encourages companies to invest here, and if done right, will keep them here. The stick of a major tariff for those that leave will dissuade new investment, because it will create a roach motel of “you can check in but you can never leave.”
