Russia has just given up on trying to launch strikes from its rickety aircraft carrier

Russia's sole aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, began its first combat deployment to Syria with plenty of fanfare, but a recent report from IHS Jane's indicates Russia has given up entirely on launching strikes from the carrier.

Satellite imagery obtained by Jane's shows Su-33 jets and one MiG-29KR previously aboard the carrier now stationed at the Hmeymim air base in Syria alongside land-based planes from Russia's air force.

The Kuznetsov, never an entirely reliable system, had one of its MiG-29KRs crash in November, and another pilot had to eject after the Kuznetsov's landing gear failed and couldn't receive the aircraft, Jane's reports.

Not surprising. Russia is and always will be a land power. China has the same handicap.

Rusia should be letting A10s get the jobs done. Trump could help get that set up.

“after the Kuznetsov’s landing gear failed and couldn’t receive the aircraft”

Am I the only one that had a snort-chuckle after reading that line??

"If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them. If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected."

Someone told me here on FreeRepublic that these reports were not correct. I know they are. I provided an open source to prove it. Why do some people blindly believe Putin and Putinism is without any flaws? His authoritarianism runs completely contrary to conservative values of the rule of law. He has set himself up as a president for life, yet there are some who seem to think that’s what a great leader does. It’s weird.

We’re playing with him. Once the Iran deal goes down and China’s shenanigans are stopped, Putin won’t have any major allies

It's envy of Putin's nationalism. Now that we have a nationalist of our own, we can rightly view Putin with suspicion.

It’s actually quite straightforward: Russia’s PPP is less than California’s. China’s PPP greater than the US’s and continuing to grow. China screws American workers and consumers everyday of the week while Russia just buys our stuff and keeps thier meddling to thier own back yard. Russia isn’t a threat to us while China is. People who get riled up against Russia are not seeing our strategic situation clearly.

Even with good US technology blueprints, things are still being built by Russians. Remember the old Soviet era joke about working,”They pretend to pay us, and we pretend to work.” I doubt that situation has changed all that much in recent years.
