I remember the first time I took my son and daughter (no there is no sexism there, she was two years younger than him) Fly Fishing.
I helped them both cast their rods and showed them how to do a “hand over hand retrieval”.
I let them both try for a while, then I hooked up about a 3 pounder Rainbow Trout.
I played it until it was tired out, then let it sit.
I handed the rod to my son and told him dad had to take a piss, I came back and asked him how it was doing, he told me that he felt some big tugs on the line and thought it was stuck.
I told him to hand me the rod and I would see, I knew what was there, so I told him “NO JOSH, YOU HAVE A GOOD ONE ON THE LINE”,. Now play it, let it run, play it, bring it in slow.
My son got his first fish with a fly rod that day.
About an hour and a half later I was able to do the same thing with my Daughter, the excuse was different “dads going to go get a soda so takes dad’s rod”, the smile on her face is something I will never forget (Jessie’s was actually bigger than Joshe’s).
You want to teach kids to appreciate wildlife, hunting, and fishing; you have to let them win one when they are young. Same goes for bird hunting or big game.
My kids will have these skills for the rest of their lives, I don’t have to worry about their ability to feed themselves when push comes to shove.
I just watched the video; that little lady is better than most adults I know
Being a Marine (honorably discharged in 72), her trigger finger control was OUTSTANDING.
I would hunt with her any time.
Now I ask you, do you care what kind of pants the S.O.B. that shot you was wearing?
I was watching that movie about an hour ago. My favorite scene
What a fun memory your kids have. (As long as they don’t read FR!)
>> question: how does this work legally?
She identifies as an adult?
LOL. Thank God I have videos to remind me of their adorable years...
She just saved another motorist and possibly his family from death and bodily injuries becuase of the retched stupid animals that wander onto the highways
Very excellent point. I had a deer that tried to attack me through my windshield once. This little girl is a hero!
These days people way underestimate what kids are capable of. Teaching them things at an early age is so good for them. They become very proficient at a surprisingly young age. And yet, people today have very low expectations for children and don't think they can reach potential that they have.
My youngest daughter learned to crochet at age 5. And yes, her stuff looked like a beginner did it. About as good as mine even now.
But she became very good at it very quickly and people were amazed to see her do it.
Was her shirt tail cut, and was she “blooded?”
Well, that use to be the practice with your first deer.
