7-Year-Old's Reaction at Killing Her First Deer With AR-Style Rifle Goes Viral
Dallas Morning News ^ | 11/3 | Liz Farmer

A video raking in the views shows a 7-year-old Texas girl poised for two minutes with her hands on a gun the size of her before she pulls the trigger, killing her first deer.

The little hunter, Lilly Klapper, looks on in awe before beaming at her bearded father, who exclaims "You got it" and high-fives her.

The action begins around the 1:40 mark:

Lilly shot the whitetail deer Monday in Central Texas with an AR style rifle chambered in 300 blackout, according to a video description. The family appears to live in Jacksboro, about 65 miles west of Denton, according to the Facebook page of Lilly's mother, Daisy Klapper. The San Antonio Express-News reports that the video got more than 2.5 million views on Facebook, where it appears to no longer be available. It's also been posted on YouTube, though, which has received nearly 30,000 views since it was published Friday. Lilly's dad, Cody Klapper, posted a note on Facebook acknowledging critics.

“Imagine you’re a deer.”

That’s a lot of patience for a 7 year old.

Congrats go out to Lilly!
I shot my first one about that same age with a .410 slug gun.

One wonders what the reaction on Facebook is. Did the deer have a name?

Hunting and fishing are the best ways to teach children patience.

Fishing with a child is also a good way to teach Dad patience!

My wife is amazed how I can get frustrated with some things, but how I did okay with three kids on the river bank. Although I figured out real quick that I wasn’t going to be doing any fishing!

Dad took us fishing. No talking...you'll scare the fish away.

My older bro always took me fishing with him...same rule...no talking.

As I grew older, I questioned it. But to no avail.....the rule stayed...stop talking or you're going home. Hmmmm...I still have my suspicions about their motives.

What makes you believe no hunting license was involve? Most states have youth hunting seasons where they can hunt with a competent adult.

States may vary, this is Ga.

Landowner does not need a license on his land.

HUNTERS UNDER AGE 16 are not required to complete a hunter educa-
tion course. A child under age 16 must be under “direct supervision”
or “directly supervised,” which means uninterrupted, unaided visual
contact and auditory communication with the child by an adult. It is
unlawful for an adult to permit their child or ward (under age 16) to
hunt without adult supervision.

never said there wasn’t one, i ask if one wasn’t required?
i wasn’t aware a seven year old child could even get one, but on further searching:

http://www.huntercourse.com/usa/texas/regulations.aspx

Every hunter (including out-of-state hunters) born on or after Sept. 2, 1971, must successfully complete a Hunter Education Training Course. Proof of certification or deferral is required to be on your person while hunting. Minimum age of certification is 9 years and cost is $15.

This is Texas, not New York. As long as she is accompanied by a parent and she has taken the hunter safety course. Away from the riff raff you would be surprised by how many kids are raised around firearms and respect firearms.
