Cambridge police are telling people to avoid the areas of Berkshire Street and Vandine Street as firefighters battle a 10-alarm blaze in the city.
The first call for the fire went out at about 2 p.m. The blaze is close to Kendall Square and the Kendall Square Cinema. In a tweet, the Cambridge Firefighters Local 30 said at seven to eight buildings are involved.

My musician son doesn’t live there (too pricey) but he plays in two or three clubs in Cambridge. The Toad and Club Passim come to mind. I think there’s one other. Anyway... I was also upset about the fire in Oakland. My other son years ago had a tiny space in a place like this where he displayed his amazing art work. I thought at the time that it was a total fire trap. For some reason when I go into a place I check out things like that. I remember going up two flights of stairs. There were extension cords everywhere and since it was twenty years ago there were probably people smoking. Lots of accelerants. It’s amazing anyone survived.
As many as 2 dozen may be dead . . . building has violations - last used as a warehouse - people living there without permits.
The owner is going to jail for a long, long time.
An artist collective . . . a labyrinth of areas just on the ground floor.
Thanks for this news. I have a sister whose home is in Cambridge - I am calling her to be sure this isn’t near her home. I don’t think it is.
Steeple staircase made of wood going through the buildings burned away . . . so people were likely trapped.

That sounds like a good guess. There was construction going on in the building where it started from what I heard. My wish is that people not give muslims more credit than they deserve.

Wrong fire. No reported deaths in THIS fire. This is in Cambridge.
