China lodges diplomatic protest following Trump's phone call with President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan

China lodged a diplomatic protest on Saturday after President-elect Donald Trump spoke by phone with President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan, but blamed the self-ruled island Beijing claims as its own for the "petty" move.

The 10-minute telephone call with Taiwan's leadership was the first by a U.S. president-elect or president since President Jimmy Carter switched diplomatic recognition from Taiwan to China in 1979, acknowledging Taiwan as part of "one China".

China's Foreign Ministry said it had lodged "stern representations" with what it called the "relevant U.S. side", urging the careful handling of the Taiwan issue to avoid any unnecessary disturbances in ties.

"The one China principle is the political basis of the China-U.S. relationship," it said.

The wording implied the protest had gone to the Trump camp, but the ministry provided no explanation.

Speaking earlier, hours after Friday's telephone call, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pointedly blamed Taiwan for the exchange, rather than Trump, a billionaire businessman with little foreign policy experience.

"This is just the Taiwan side engaging in a petty action, and cannot change the 'one China' structure already formed by the international community," Wang said at an academic forum in Beijing, China's Foreign Ministry quoted him as saying.

"I believe that it won't change the longstanding 'one China' policy of the United States government."

WRONG! China is going to feel the change in Washington in more than one way.

Taiwan called Trump. What was the stupid move? (Other than mentioning weapons we sold to Taiwan in a tweet, wish he would not have done that)

First of all, I am a fan of history. The Red Chinese have been very sensitive to what they see as a rebellious province, and have been pretty clear that their long term goal is to reunite (or take) Taiwan. Right now, if they were to launch an invasion the US Navy couldn’t do much about it (Taiwan could make the ocean glow for a hundred years if they tried though). We have decayed to the point were fighting a “real” war is pretty much impossible.

If we push Red China into a corner, they will strike. FDR did that with Imperial Japan, and you know what happened.

Trump is not the President yet. He has not been sworn in, and as such should not have taken the call.

As for the Norks, China is using them as a Cats paw. They are also getting pretty tired of them, and view all Koreans as a “mud” people (the Han are very racist). Red China has built a wall to keep the illegal alien Norks out. Not saying they are against them, but they view them with disdain. They will drop them once the cost becomes to great, and Trump talking with Taiwan will not help that.

As for the finance things, what do you think will happen when China stops buying our debt? All those pretty boys in Wall Street will lose their ever loving minds.
