Sarah Palin calls Trump’s deal with Carrier ‘crony capitalism’
The Sacramento Bee ^ | December 2nd, 2016 | By Brian Murphy

Former Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin, who is reportedly under consideration for a spot in President-elect Donald Trump’s administration, criticized Trump’s recent deal with Carrier to keep jobs in the United States.

Trump visited the Carrier plant in Indianapolis on Thursday and touted the deal during a speech after the visit in front of a Carrier banner.

Carrier will keep about 1,000 jobs in Indiana, instead of moving them to Mexico. In exchange, the state of Indiana is giving the company about $7 million in incentives. Vice president-elect Mike Pence in the current governor of Indiana.

“When government steps in arbitrarily with individual subsidies, favoring one business over others, it sets inconsistent, unfair, illogical precedent. Meanwhile, the invisible hand that best orchestrates a free people’s free enterprise system gets amputated,” Palin wrote in an op-ed published Friday by Young Conservatives.

“Then special interests creep in and manipulate markets. Republicans oppose this, remember? Instead we support competition on a level playing field, remember? Because we know special interest crony capitalism is one big fail.”

Palin, then the governor of Alaska, was on the 2008 Republican ticket with Arizona Senator John McCain. McCain and Palin lost to Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Palin was an early supporter of Trump, endorsing him in January of 2016.

I don't agree with her, but she has every right to speak her mind.

In politics, things go too far or not far enough, politicians push some idea far beyond the limits of its applicability or they don't push it at all.

Somebody pointing out that President Trump can't do this with every company that wants to cut and run puts a damper on expectations that might otherwise get out of hand.

It can also act as a spur to come up with more comprehensive policies for dealing with runaway factories and to put those policies into effect.

If Donald Trump can have dinner with Mitt Romney twice, he probably doesn't hold a little constructive criticism against Sarah Palin.

The problem here is that Palin has no knowledge that Trump wouldn’t do the same thing for GE Frigidaire or Lennox. My guess is that he would treat everyone the same.As long as everyone is treated the same there is no foul no penalty
As much as I revere her Palin in wrong on this one.

We do know that York, in York PA didn’t receive the same government favors.

And York and Carrier compete up and down the scale of the very same market.

Leave it to the bitter and hateful MSM to try to drive a wedge between Sarah and DJT.

“I don’t agree with her, but she has every right to speak her mind.”

Quite true, but the timing makes no sense except that perhaps the comments are self-serving since Trump has yet to have ANY AUTHORITY to act under the powers of the Presidency. If things were really coming off the rails after Trump had assumed the office it would be a different matter, but here she’s just pissing into the wind for her own devices.

Trump said this single Carrier plant had to deal with over 50 new federal regulations during the Kenyan administration. That means lawyers, accountants, and harassment from the central authority for this firm and millions of other businesses throughout America.

Play long ball President Trump. Gut regulations, reduce taxes, get goverment off our backs, and Make America Great Again.

The mainstream media is reporting this and I’ll not get into it with any anger or emotion.

I read a post of the original article earlier this morning and responded with the notion its a smear of Sarah Palin.

I posted “Is that you Mitt?” implying her enemies were behind this story.

She totally is, she should try and see what it is like when you got a family to support and you lose your job and you got no savings. I’ve been there before and it-is-absolute hell on earth.

You are talking out of your hat.
Indiana is the one that made the deal. If the climate for business improves in the US companies will not need a sweetener to say. It will be in their self interest.

So many of the comments on this thread are disheartening because they show no grasp of economics and muddle the dialog. The Government is not the nanny of business and shouldn’t be put in the position of treating every business equally. Right now Government’s relationship with business is unutterable, hire only minority, female or LGBT owned corporations to do Gvt work??><{)*+_*^D

The Government needs to set the stage for businesses to succeed by removing excessive regulations, allowing energy independence, lowering taxes and promote repatriation of capital. Revitalizing infrastructure will help as well. These are things that are done for all businesses.

If the Gvt needs to prime the pump by reaching out to select companies in this transition period it should. To suggest otherwise is quixotic. Just like suggesting that if Carrier moves to Mexico some other business will magically appear to take its place (capital?, experience, name recognition?) Or the equally ridiculous assertion that Indiana should go into the air conditioning business.

Who said Indiana should go into the "air conditiong" business? Indiana, the Federal Government, and every other state is in the jobs business. None of this has anything to do with air conditioning.

P.S. did you know that North Korea has 100% employment? No jobs ever leave North Korea!

Indiana should just buy Carrier outright and keep those jobs forever! As it is now, a New Deal will have to be negotiated every 4-8 years.

She's right. No more favoritism and corporate welfare because that's how we got in the mess we're in now.

Sarah Palin would make a much better Secretary of Commerce than Trump's mega-rich friend.

Its your own post I reproduced. You are the one who asked who said it so I reproduced it.
It made no sense the first time and it still doesn’t.

States don’t take over private businesses & run them. As far as I know Freepers are united in shrinking GVT not expanding its focus. Are you sure you are not visiting from the other side...
