Palin slams Trump Carrier deal as 'crony capitalism'

Sarah Palin is criticizing President-elect Donald Trump’s deal with Carrier, even as she is reportedly under consideration to serve as Trump's secretary of Veterans Affairs.

In a op-ed in Young Conservatives published Friday, the former Alaska governor first expresses excitement for the Carrier employees whose jobs are staying in Indiana. “What a relief for hundreds of workers,” she wrote. “Merry Christmas Indiana!”

But she goes onto to blast the deal as “crony capitalism" and an example of the "hallmark of corruption" and "socialism."

“When government steps in arbitrarily with individual subsidies, favoring one business over others, it sets inconsistent, unfair, illogical precedent,” Palin wrote. “Then, special interests creep in and manipulate markets. Republicans oppose this, remember?”

“Instead, we support competition on a level playing field, remember? Because we know special interest crony capitalism is on big fail.”

Exactly. Trump was handed Sophies choice. He chose to keep jobs here even though critics say it’s not the “conservative” thing to do.

“Trump intends to lower taxes for all. Patience is not a virtue on our side.”

Not when grandstanding and complaining can be done at the speed of light.

I guess I’m wondering what tax breaks did Alaska hand out to incentivize companies to stay there?

Sarah needs to STFU; she doesn't understand this whole deal!

I too think this was poor timing for her to write this OP-ED; the left will turn it into something it's not.

Her role in the 200 million dollar “bridge to nowhere” is still unclear... Makes Trump’s deal look like a bargin.

“Not really, I don’t think. Tax breaks for individual companies to “induce” them to do what government wants is not a “conservative” thing to do.”

So how is that any different than when Reagan lowered the tax rates to “induce” them to start investing and expanding?

What is the “conservative” thing to do? Because we are operating under NAFTA, and that is not this “level playing field”.

And with Carrier looking to head for the border, you either get the best deal to keep these Americans in a job, or you explain to them what magic conservative spell are you going to cast to keep these people off of the dole.

Well, she must not have been offered the job she was after.....oh well. The Veterans would have loved her.

Arbitrary, crony capitalism, those are pretty strong words from Ms. Palin.

When did she become such an authority on markets.

Trump is negotiating. Simple as that.

7 million in tax breaks over 10 years sure doesn’t seem like much to me considering 1100 jobs @ estimated 50K annually = 55 million. JMO

From what I know, this deal was made by Indiana, not by the federal government. So technically this is a deal made by Pence as governor. To me, how Indiana chooses to allocate its tax breaks is Indiana’s business. Federalism at work.

I confess I don’t know if there are any fed carrots in the deal.

>> “ He is still supporting UNESCO education...does he know it?” <<

You are right, and no, he has no idea what is going on. He needs information, but he put a barrier between himself and those that have the knowledge to fix it during the primary.

People are going to have to bury their hurt feelings if anything good is going to get done.

I agree with her technically, but am OK with this one-time symbolic gesture. After Jan. 20 it would be a horrible thing. Let the new tax breaks and diminished regulations play out and things should fall into place.

you can have ideological purity or you can stop the offshoring of America’s industrial base. Can’t have both. Trump never said he was an ideological purist, so nobody should feel deceived

By the way, Lincoln was s protectionist too

Maybe I don’t understand, but it seems like the government is already involved because they tax in the first place, influencing the company to think of leaving. Are we not just haggling about the amount - more tax or less?

Surely Sarah knows it is common practice for cities and states to offer concessions to attract businesses. I really wish she wouldn’t criticize him, at least not so soon. I really want her to be part of the administration.
