The Ted Cruz campaign may have played a key role in handing Donald Trump the White House, an on the record discussion between key political operatives Thursday revealed.
Cruz’s campaign manager, Jeff Roe, warned the Trump campaign ahead of the New Hampshire primary that support for him was dropping in their internal polls, giving Trump a chance to recalibrate his strategy in the key primary state. He went on to win New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina, essentially locking up the Republican nomination.
Corey Lewandowski, then Trump’s campaign manager, recalled the phone call at an election post-mortem hosted by Harvard University. Roe called him following Trump’s loss in the Iowa caucuses to tell him internal Cruz polling showed Trump was losing support in New Hampshire, because he spent too much time attacking other candidates.
The Trump campaign was not conducting internal polls of its own at the time, Lewandowski said, so the phone call provided crucial insight going into the New Hampshire primary, allowing them to adjust their strategy. A loss in New Hampshire could have proved a death blow to the Trump campaign.
Roe confirmed Lewandowski’s account, saying at that point in the campaign the Cruz campaign “needed Trump” to defeat the other Republican candidates.
The account was part of a larger discussion of the failure of other Republican candidates to take Trump down in the primaries, perhaps because they didn’t take him seriously enough.

I believe the sore loser thing didn’t come up until the Clinton operative said that Trump only won because he appealed to base racist instincts in the country and Steve (Race) Bannon was the perfect example of that. That’s when Kellyanne shot back with something like well, you know what? You lost. ;-)

I just took this as an example of “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” - Cruz and Trump shared that common interest at such an early point in the primary process. That’s all. Makes sense to me and I don’t read anything further into it.

My slightly different take. Megyn asked EVERY candidate questions related to their vulnerability. Trump played it as an "ambush question". So, my nuance is that it was not what Megyn did, but how Trump played it better than anyone else.
Cruz is not eligible to be President, he is not a natural born citizen. Foreign birth and foreign national parent is doubly ineligible.
You are right, though, we still don’t have any evidence that he is a citizen at all. The only thing we have seen is his Canadian birth certificate.

You are correct about the General Election. But there was a differing result in the
GOP primary delegate allocation to which was the reference in this thread.
my favorite moment is when the Trump supporter dissected Cruz in Indiana...it was over right there!
Ted Cruz isn’t smart enough to be president.
Trump pushed secure borders. The others couldn’t honestly respond because of their big donors. Their lack of honesty was obvious. Because of the results the Republican congress delivered in 2010-2014, the game was over for the primary.
